[Update] Three new Sonic Unleashed trailers

Whilst browsing Youtube (at 2:30am), I randomly stumbled upon two three new Sonic Unleashed trailers that Sega America and Sega Europe have just uploaded.
The first (above) is a level from the Wii version of the game, Holoska. Now this is actually the first Unleashed trailer that has made me really sit up and pay attention. From the looks of this lovely ice level Sonic Unleashed might actually be more appealing (to me) than I first thought.
Sonic Unleashed achievements revealed
Posted by Graham. Filed under News.

Thanks to some handy detective work, one of our favourite Sega Nerds managed to come across the Xbox 360 achievements list for Sonic Unleashed.
The game will feature 50 achievements, and while I’m not entirely sure what all the achievements mean, they are making me think there could be more to the game than meets the eye, like; “Talk with people in the pursuit of love“ interesting…
Full list after the break.
Hands-on preview: House of the Dead: Overkill
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo Wii, Preview. Tagged with Hands on, Headstrong Games, House of the Dead, Overkill.

The more observant of you might have noticed my little Twitter message (see right-hand column on site), so hopefully some of you will have seen this coming.
Earlier this week, Sega Nerds was invited by those sexy chaps at Sega Europe to get some hands-on time with the upcoming Wii-exclusive House of the Dead: Overkill.
Unfortunately, as the game is still in development, I wasn’t able to play a full version. Instead my hands-on time was spent with a specially made demo, which contained just the second level from the game - Bayou County General Hospital.
While Overkill is the latest installment in the franchise, the game is actually a prequel to the original Arcade and Saturn title. Because of this earlier setting, developer Headstrong Games has opted to give the title a cheesy 1970’s horror movie vibe, complete with film grain effects, bad acting and some wonderfully over-the-top voice-overs.
Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles released for Dreamcast

This kind of crept up on us, Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles, a new Dreamcast title developed by Yuan Works and published by redspotgames, has been released.
I’m a bit confused on the dates, as Play-Asia says it was released yesterday (Nov. 10th), Yuan Works says on November 1st and redspotgames is saying November 5th. But whatever the case, the game is out now!
For those that don’t know, Wind and Wateris a puzzle game that was first released on the GP2X, but now it has (finally) arrived on our beloved Dreamcast console with plenty of added extras - as the website mentions:
Sega confirms no delay for Western versions of Sonic Unleashed
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, Multi-platform, News, Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with delay, Sonic Unleashed.
You might recall a few days ago we reported that the Japanese 360 and PS3 versions of Sonic Unleashed were to be delayed until Spring 2009. Reports had suggested that the delay was due to technical concerns and they wanted to “improve the quality of the game.”
Questions were raised about whether the game would also be delayed in Europe and America too? And if the Western versions were not delayed, would that mean that Western gamers would not be able to experience the “improvements” made to the Japanese version?
Well Sega has responded to the concerns:
“To Sonic fans living outside Japan: Previously we informed you that the release date of Sonic World Adventure (Sonic Unleashed) in Japan on PS3 and 360 will be delayed.
Based on that announcement, some fans living overseas have become concerned that there will be a difference in quality between the version of the game released in Japan and the version released outside of Japan. This is not the case and we apologise for this misunderstanding.
Sega Nerds no longer able to make Sonic levels in LBP

~No more fun levels like this, I’m afraid~
You might remember several weeks back we posted up this rather nifty video (above) showing off a user-made version of Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone, with Little Big Planet. While perhaps not as speedy as the original hedgehog outing, what we saw was pretty good.
No doubt many PS3 owning Sega Nerds would be excited at the prospect of uploading their own Sega-themed outings to the Little Big Planet servers, but it seems that will no longer be possible. Sony is now removing any user-creations that could potentially infringe on copyrights.
Halloween Nerdaway: Winners announcement
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News. Tagged with Contest, Halloween Nerdaway, House of the Dead, Overkill, Winners.

It’s time for us to announce the winners of our Halloween Nerdaway. But before we do, we have a bit of an extra surprise. Now, the more observant of you might think there is a mistake in that title, as we originally listed that the winner would win a House of the Dead: Overkill press kit and a limited edition t-shirt.
But you’d be wrong. It seems that Sega likes us so much, that they are in fact going to give out two sets of the original prize listed, which means we will have two winners for the contest! So another big thank you to Sega Europe for doubling the prizes, and for being so damn sexy.
Without further ado, I shall reveal our two winners of the “House of the Dead caption contest.”
Rumour: Sonic Unleashed to feature downloadable content?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, Multi-platform, News. Tagged with Rumour, Sonic Unleashed.

According to the guys over at TheSonicStadium, Sonic Unleashed will feature downloadable content. The news came about when they stumbled across an image showing the back cover of the Xbox 360 version, on the Woolworths website.
Now, it’s not that I don’t trust TSS, (because I do trust them), but I have put this down as a rumour for now for a couple of reasons.
Sega hoping to open up a new market for the Wii

~Generic Wii image~
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz Darren Williams, head of content at Sega A&R, spoke a little of his feelings towards the Wii and how Sega hopes to (effectively) create a new market in the console’s games library.
When asked if he thought the Wii was a good starting point for new gamers and if the gamers would then move on to the true next gen consoles (360 and PS3), Darren had this to say:

That’s right, this is the final reminder for the Halloween Nerdaway, aka House of the Dead Caption Contest. The contest closes at midnight tonight - we’ll be going with midnight for the West coast of America, to give everyone a chance to enter.
In case you missed the other two posts, all you have to do is think up a funny caption for the above image and you can either send us an email, (seganerds@gmail.com) or leave a comment on any of the contest posts (including this one) with your caption.
All we need is your caption right now, once we announce the winner, we will ask him/her for any extra details needed. For more information on the contest, check here.
Good luck to all entrants!
