Resident Evil

We kick things off with one of the most recognisable names in the horror genre. Resident Evil is one of the biggest game franchises of all time, and it’s gone on to have an impact in other areas too. When it comes to Sega, Resident Evil on the Sega Saturn is up there with the very best in the game series. Not only are the graphics great, the gameplay is gripping too, with an unlockable Battle Mode helping to take things to another level. Rumour has it that the Japanese version adds in more gore, monsters and mansions too!

Enemy Zero

Another Sega Saturn title makes this list and it’s totally deserved. Enemy Zero in a way plays like Alien: Isolation, in that it is set aboard a spaceship. The creator of the game, Kenji Eno, wants the player to find themselves having to rely on the pitch and frequency of beeps to locate the enemy. So, in a way, you’re stalked throughout by an invisible force, and this only helps to increase the fear factor tenfold. Enemy Zero is a game which will have you on the edge of your seat throughout as you roam empty corridors.

House of the Dead: Overkill

House of the Dead: Overkill is a fantastic instalment from the brilliant House of the Dead franchise. Available to play across a range of devices, which includes mobile, players will enjoy the zombies and fast-paced gun wielding action which has become the staple of every House of the Dead title. It’s the ideal game for people to play this Halloween as it’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, with horror and enjoyment on the menu in equal measures. The music used within the game helps to take things up a notch too, keeping the player immersed in the shooting action for hours on end.

Castlevania: Bloodlines

Castlevania is another established game series to appear in this list. Bloodlines is the only title from the series to appear on a Sega console, with Konami releasing it for the genesis back in 1994. You could say that it’s the perfect Halloween game, as there’s a multitude of castles infested by disturbing creatures. Bloodlines is up there with the very best Castlevania games to ever be released, as its gameplay, visuals and storyline worked perfectly in tandem to deliver a scary yet superb gaming experience. With two heroes to choose from, it’s a game with longevity too.
