YM2017 is a new music album on a SEGA Genesis cart available for pre-order now

Cartridge includes an 8x8 LED dot matrix display

There have been many SEGA Genesis games with legendary soundtracks, but to the best of our knowledge, there’s never been a Genesis game whose soul purpose is to contain nothing but a legendary soundtrack until now.

YM2017 is an upcoming, nine-track compilation cartridge for the Genesis by way of Catskull Electronics. What’s even crazier is the cartridge will feature an on-board 8×8 LED display that will show graphics and act as a real-time visualizer, according to the Catskull Electronics website.

The album/cartridge is available to pre-order now for $45, and the website includes previews of each song that will be included.

I’m not very familiar with most of the artists included in the album, but from what I heard from the preview, the album sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun to listen to, and the cart could be a sweet conversation starter for when you have company over!

You can pre-order the YM2017 cart here.

Thanks for sharing! I’m one of the artists, made the song “Festicity Zone”, was a lot of fun to make despite the challenges due to the hardware limitations, and I’m just so happy it made the cut for inclusion in the final album!

Great work, sadly the song gets rather good right when the preview cuts off, darn tease.
Congrats on making the cut, it certainly is a quality track, least in my opinion from what I’ve heard. Not just giving blind praise, I actively hunt down ym2612 songs, gotta do a lot of digging for good ones or find any at all sometimes.
I’m curious just how difficult it was to get it working on real hardware, hope to see an interview on it (wink wink nudge nudge Chris) really just glad we finally have one of these music carts at all. Less there’s some I’ve missed out on, I haven’t seen any before either.
Well might be some demo scene carts but I think those were mostly covers and not sold on carts.
Best of luck with it, I hope it sells well. (and I can manage to get a copy myself :3)

Glad it has previews. Some really great songs in there.
I absolutely love chiptune tracks made with the ym2612 , which is totally full of potential especially nowadays with the chiptune scene and advanced tools.
Still waiting to see songs made with a Saturn if that ever takes off heh.
Very tempted to get this one and dig my Genesis out of storage.
Fifty one dollars with shipping might seem a little steep but with the fancy lights and I hope a nice box it would be totally worth it. (not to mention the good music)
Though I’d like to get a rom or downloadable version of it but that ruin the fun of it all.
Hope more homebrew carts like this start to become a more regular thing much like NES music carts out there.
Really just happy this is a thing at all.
