SEGA to end service for controversial Puyo Puyo Quest reskin game

SEGA of America has announced they will end service tomorrow (March 31, 2016) for the controversial Cranky Food Friends, a mobile game launched on August 17th for iOS and Android. The game received a lot of backlash for basically being a Puyo Puyo Quest reskin, and not being a proper Puyo release with its iconic characters, which are one of the series strongest assest that has helped the franchise to be that popular during 25 years. The game’s community manager has posted the following on the Official SEGA Forums for the title:

Hello,

I can now officially confirm to you that on March 31, 2016, Cranky Food Friends will be shut down.

This decision was not made lightly; the Cranky Food Friends team put hard work and long hours into this game, but in the end, it did not gain a robust enough following to make the game viable over the long term.

Thank you so much for playing.

We hope SEGA reinforces their strategy for the title in the west over the possible arrival of copycats, and reconsider to bring it with its characters, the strongest asset along SEGA’s legally protected VS competition rules mechanics over the years.

Thanks for the tip Berto Yulianto!
