A playable build of Sonic X-treme is now available

The wait is over, ladies and gents. A playable build of Sonic X-treme is now available for download! Due to the significant traffic at ASSEMblergames, you will have to register on their forum in order to download the 1.78 MB release. For those of you who are interested, you can register here.

Despite the game being nearly 20 years old, you will need to have a “modern” version of the Windows OS, preferably Windows 7 or better.

For those of you who do not meet the criteria, a trailer and mini-documentary of the game has been released.

As ProtoMedia’s video states, this release is a work-in-progress build as seen at E3 in 1996. That would put this version of Sonic X-treme at around 4-6 months before its formal cancellation and around 9-12 months  before game designers Chris Senn and Ofer Alon released their “New Worlds” demo.

What do you guys think of this release of Sonic X-treme? Have any of you had the chance to play it yet? Do you hope a full version of the game ever gets made? Let us know in the comments below!
