Rumour: Sonic Unleashed to feature downloadable content?

According to the guys over at TheSonicStadium, Sonic Unleashed will feature downloadable content.  The news came about when they stumbled across an image showing the back cover of the Xbox 360 version, on the Woolworths website.

Now, it’s not that I don’t trust TSS, (because I do trust them), but I have put this down as a rumour for now for a couple of reasons.

TSS says that the back cover states “game content download.”  For one thing, it is almost impossible to read the writing on the image.  But I must admit, it certainly does look like it could say that.

Another thing, (which makes me wonder what is actually says) is that every single Xbox 360 game that I own (that’s about 50 games), that features downloadable content has this written on the back; “content download,”  notgame content download.”

So either Sega has broken the mould and it does say “game content download” or it says something else entirely…

There is a strong chance that this is true, it certainly wouldn’t be the first Sonic game to have downloadable content.  Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 had it, as did Sonic 06.  So, if it is true, what content could be available for download?  New levels? New characters?  Time will tell.

Hopefully we can confirm or deny this rumour in the next couple of days.

If the game is good, I will care for the downloadable content

It could be different difficulty modes for levels and unlock levels for other characters like on the last xbox 360 Sonic game. :)

This isn’t exactly something that would make or break a game purchase for me. It’s not that I don’t care at all, mind you, but does this rumor really deserve that much attention, considering the relatively meager offerings DLC would probably entail based on past experience?

Now if we were to get a reliable information on specific, substantial DLC offerings like extra characters or levels then that would definitely be something to write a 200+ word post about. As you said, though, this is just words on the back of a box.

They don’t utilize the downloadable content well enough. I’m still waiting for the ‘not suck’ patch for Sonic ‘06.

What I’d like would be new levels to download, that would be fantastic… remakes of old sonic levels like green hill zone (in 2.5D) and so on would be so awesome…

That would really sell me the game.

We all know they are just going to use this to charge you extra for features that should have been included in the game anyways.

Also, this is really old news. DLC was confirmed right after the game itself was confirmed.
