Sonic Unleashed delayed in Japan

According to the fantastically German gaming news site gamefront.de, Sega has announced that Sonic Unleashed has been delayed for the Xbox 360 and PS3 until Spring of 2009 in Japan. Whether this applies to release dates in other regions hasn’t been announced, but a trusty Google translation of the news blurb reads:
The more time the developers want to improve the quality of the game advantage.
The Wii version of the game, developed by Dimps, is still slated for release on December 18 in Japan. No word on the PS2 version, which will not see release in Japan. Expect announcements about the game’s scheduled drop date to materialize from Sega’s other branches soon, so stay tuned, Sega Nerds!
If this holds true for all regions, it may mark a significant departure from Sega’s habit of pushing games out the door early to capitalize on the holiday rush.

I actually wouldn’t mind if the developers took more time on the game and delayed it a few months. I don’t get back home till early 2009, anyway!

i still find it weird they are releasing the Dimps version first than their own internal version for the X360/PS3 that theyve been marketing this whole time…
it makes no sense to me…

How much you want to bet the delay has something to do with making the night levels GOOD.
Oh and maybe making a few other types of badniks. :)
Take as much time as you need Sonic Team. Please. Make this worth my wait.

Don’t the next-gen versions have a couple exclusive levels? Maybe they’re polishing those up. All the better to make me feel even more self-conscious about getting the PS2 version, right?

To be honest, I was a little worried earlier this year when Sega said that (if I’m remembering correctly) only half the levels were done and they planned to release the game in eight months. I didn’t think it was enough time to finish up the game and put out a quality product. I’ve been optimistic that they’d be able to do it in time, but if they delay it only means a better end product. I’m cool with it (after all it’s not like Ghostbusters where I’ve already been waiting a year and must wait more because of corporate greed).

During the later half of a project, game studios normally double their efforts more than their often already overtime schedule.
Releasing games that are not of specified moments of the year are not as affected by AAA titles. Like releasing anything during the time of GTA4 and MGS4.
But fixing anything wrong now would save the dangers of very low sales due to poor design if released early. Even if everything is fixed, there is still IGN and other Gaming News media to watch out for.

This is very promising that SEGA has learned at least something from Sonic 06. Things have been looking promising for this game for a while now (although I have also learned something from recent Sonic games), hopefully the game will be polished to a shine by the time of release.
To MaxChain,
The Wii/PS2 versions have have their daytime levels developed by Dimps (Sonic Rush) due to the Wii not being able to handle the 360/PS3 level’s scale. So I guess you could say both Wii/PS2 and 360/PS3 will each have 7-8 exclusive levels.

As Eric suggested - I hope they use this time to make some more Badniks (enemies). Because the one thing that is putting me off the most is how ***king awful those robots look that are in the game (they are all identical!)
