Shenmue Project: Mass Mailing Sega
Posted by George. Filed under News. Tagged with Shenmue.

Shenmue fans have decided to mass mail Sega of Japan with a simple request: Shenmue 3. Most of us here at Sega Nerds love this series, so we decided to post about their effort.
What are they going to mail? Toy capsules of course. Hit the jump to see more detailed instructions.
To Celebrate the 9th Anniversary of Shenmue’s release in Japan, I am currently setting up a mass mailing to Sega of Japan. I will be asking all the fans that are able to participate in this event. The main idea is that all of us that can will be sending in as many Toy Capsules as we can (like the ones you buy in the game). Now being that many of us will be mailing over seas the Toy packs can get a little pricey, a pack of 1lb of capsules from California is about $20. So If you just want to send a letter, that will be good also. For those who do not want to be bothered with doing the mailing yourself, I have set up a Paypal donation button on the main page, and I will personally take care of the mailing.
This Bulletin is just to get you guys ready, The actual dates we would like to start the mailing is Nov. 27th (Dreamcast’s anniversary) and end on Dec. 29th (Shenmue’s anniversary). For those how would like to check how much it would cost to mail from their Country/city, Sega of Japans address is:
SEGA CORPORATION
1-2-12 Haneda
Ohta-ku
Tokyo 144-8531
JapanI have more info on the Shenmue Myspace page

I still cant believe most idiots would ask for this now..
NOW BARE WITH ME HERE..
I am a huge huge Shenmue and hardcore Sega fan..but I REALIZE that Sega is just SLOWLY recovering from its biggest fall and close demise. What is one key factor that made Shenmue so great? it had a shit load a money invested into it, at a time when Sega was raking in the cash and could AFFORD to fuck up. We do not live in those times no more and Sega is being really really careful.
Thing is, that if you fanboys fucking get your way, were gona get some rushed or watered down game, or something running of the Yakuza engine, great game, bad mechanics! one thing Shenmue was EXCELLENT in what its fantastic and well programmed, am2 fighting mechanics. Lets please please wait till Yu is ready, not when were ready, but YU.
Best thing we can do is try and support games that Sega is really BANKING on at the moment, that look, and from what I heard, play as good as it looks, like Valkeria chronicles. If games like this do great, Sega will be able to AFFORD, bigger projects down the line.. So people, please don’t be so selfish and do some homework into some marketing and how it works.
Great fandom! WRONG TIME for it! Support what needs support in the meantime.

It’s too risky to see Shenmue from the modern Sega, before Shenmue 3, Sega would have to recovery and return back on track.
And honestly, all these shanmue talk it’s useless, Sega just now that we want shenmue 3, it’s no point in remind them that every time, it’s only annoying.
Why don’t we make something useful instead, like tell Sega how to “back on track”.
Why don’t we claim real Sega games like VF5R and Afterburner Climax on console?
Why don’t we telle them to stop all that outsoucring that only ruin the brands?
Why don’t we tell Sega to think on multiplatform instead of made Yakuza Kenzan, 3 and Valkyria FAIL on PS3?
Why don’0t we tell Sega to ACT LIKE SEGA?
IO odnt’ want shenmue 3, even with it, with all that bunch on bad games, Sega will still sux.
Sega must recover, and then Shenmue could make it’s comeback.

First: screw you City Hunter
Now for the actual message…
I’d love to see Shenmue 3, but I know it might cost too much. Then again, they could use the old engine and all that, but it still doesn’t change the fact that it’s a very intricate game that has many details that most gamers don’t get to experience, and that costs.
Shenmue didn’t have enough momentum when it was on the Dreamcast (and Xbox). Most people thought it was boring. I didn’t even experience the full glory that is Shenmue until I was about 19, because up until then, I wasn’t mature enough to sit there and get a full story. So I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that there are plenty of gamers who aren’t mature/patient enough to GET Shenmue.
I want to see the saga conclude, but Sega will have to pick from a number of options:
1. Popularize the game by pandering to the common gamers. What I mean is they would make it as a general action game or a run-of-the-mill RPG.
2. Keep it the same. It’s a good thing for us, but an unsure thing as far as popularity goest.
3. Make it a movie. I don’t want that, but they could include it with the home version of VF6.
Now, Sega could see success with Shenmue 3, but I don’t think it’s easily seen. We should let Sega know that we want it, but we also need to be patient and let Sega make the right decision.

Guys, without Sega Back on track, there is no hope for Shenmue 3, it isn’t difficult to undestand.
If they barely make decent games nowadays, how do yo expect them to make the sequel of the best videogame experience ever?
Don’t act like fans only for shenmue. there are plenty of games to support, why I never seen a petition for Afterburner Climax for example?
Shenmue is now almost an utopia, don’t bother, you are only ruining the best videogame by requesting it all the time.
It will eventually happen in the future, Sega now has more money than they had back on the days, and more chance to make the game (ex. they could reuse the Yakuza 3 engine).
Sega know that we want shenmue, the petition arrived to Yu Suzuki, so what’s the point in continue like this?
Showing support it’s ok, become annoying it’s another, and if you are annoing me, a fellow shenmue fan like you all, you can imagine a Sega employ that read the same “shenmue request from some fanboys” all the time…

Man, you guys need to learn some english. I’m sure what most Shenmue fans want is to see Shenmue 3 on the Shenmue engine on the Dreamcast(which will never happen). Fortunately we have other options, I would like Yu Suzuki to lead the project and would like to see the ending of a great series. Just be patient, Yu Suzuki said he would do the project, don’t rush him or Sega or we’ll get a shit game. Kay?

Dude i first played shenmue when i was a kid, and shenmue 2 when i was 16, it has nothin to do with maturity. I do agree that sega may release a nasty watered down game, but isnt that the risk taken with ALL game sequals? besides, this is a game that needs an ending. i need closure. Lan Di must pay.

I keep hoping that they will make the game, but I also want them to take their time, as a crappy game, even if it’s Shenmue III, is still a crappy game.
For now, I just bought Yakuza I and II. It is a good replacement, albeit not the game/series that I want. Shenmue III stays on top on my UltimateSupraWishListOfDeath. I so love this series (especially the second game) that I wouldn’t mind to much about the terrible voice acting or the dated graphics….
But as I said earlier, I hope they take the time to make it right, If they ever make it…

I would really love to see a new Shenmue but I agree that you don’t want to rush it. Though the question really is, will Yu Sazuki be the one putting it out or will SEGA be. I mean a lot of people on here are putting sega and Yu in the same page as if they matter to each other. A major factor in the game being held back was the fact that Yu left sega and they didn’t want to make it without him. I mean their is a possibility that he will make it but I think demanding it and forcing him to make it might have it turn out shity. But for all intent’s and purpose’s, you can’t make a second that leaves about ten chapter’s left in the story and not make another. They lost money on both games so they had to expect that might have been the last they could afford.

Yeah i sure wouldn’t want the game rushed but i don’t think it would cost as much as the initial $70 million because i think a large part of it was spent on research which dated back to 1994 and the game was originally meant for the Sega Saturn but as we all know that version got scraped and soon made its way to the dreamcast but i do think they need reestablished the franchise in japan by at the very least re-release Shenmue 2 with the highlight reel of the first shenmue(A.K.A Shenmue The Moive) on a current console for a purchase on xbox live or playstation network or better yet port it to the psp which is doing really well japan it has sold over ten million unit and usually rpgs are at the top of the best seller list in japan there is a petition list for a psp port located on The Shenmue Myspace Campaign petition page here a link to the page http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=170267884&blogID=385484635
