Happy 9th Birthday Dreamcast

Happy birthday Sega Dreamcast - 9 years old today!
While the Dreamcast’s official birthday should really be November 27th 1998 (when the Dreamcast launched in Japan), a lot of Dreamcast fans would rather celebrate and remember this day, September 9th 1999 - or rather 9/9/99 - which is when the Dreamcast launched in the United States.
Now we could go into debates about how the Dreamcast is a dead system (”Oh no it isn’t!”) and there is no point in all this. But come on! It should be a joyful day, a day when one of the best games consoles was launched for many of us (well, us Europeans had to wait until October 14th, 1999), and we were blessed with some of the greatest game franchises ever.
We didn’t want to go over board about it, but just can’t let a day like this pass us by. So just to help us remember this day, I have posted a rather delightful tribute video for the system (above). Of course there are tons of them to be found out there, but this one seemed to hit the mark for me. Enjoy.
Oh, and feel free to recollect your favourite Dreamcast moments with us here, just leave a comment :o)

@Kogen
Well obviously your ignorance (and grammar for that matter) knows no bounds so I am not even going to dignify your comments with a response. Go troll somewhere else, it’s not welcome here.
On a better note,
Happy Birthday Dreamcast!!!
I shall never forget the day I came home with my Dreamcast. I had never seen a better looking console in my life, both in-game and aesthetically. I played Sonic Adventure and other games hours on end for days! I have yet to have the same experience on another console.
Happy birthday my orange-lit friend, 9.9.99 will forever be engraved in our hearts.

i still remember lining up at the EB waiting to get my pre-ordered Dreamcast, with Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. The guy at EB even asked me why I wanted Soul Calibur when I could have had greater titles like Blue Stinger or Trickstyle… obviously he had no clue what he was talking about.

My favourite moment? I helped a PR company that I worked for get the Dreamcast account in the UK and then left.

My favourite moment?
Every damn time I get a bunch of people together to play Chu Chu Rocket!
So much back stabbing, so much laughter, so much insanity…… I love my Dreamcast ^_^

I didn’t buy my first Dreamcast new but I managed to get a bunch of new games for it throughout the years.
Soul Calibur is still pretty kick ass.
I have yet to finish off awesome games like Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia.

Playing Shenmue II for the first time was almost a religious experience for me.
Happy birthday, Dreamcast!

To celebrate, im actually picking up my first purchased dreamcast, on Saturday.
I remember may years ago, when i was a wee lad, i had my sight on a Playstation, but over in the corner of Microplay (game shop in Prince George), was a dreamcast and the first thing i played, blew me away: Blue Stinger.
fast forward many years and during my college experience, always regretting not picking one up, i found my college actually had a Dreamcast that you could rent out. After many tried negotiations with the school, they just refused to let me buy it from them. But still, it past MANY a break time and held many an afterclass party with event sof Soul Calibur and Sonic Adventure 2 speedruns.
And this saturday, ill finally be able to call one my own. And ill be placeing it, right beside my Genesis, Gamegear, and Saturn, to semi-complete my lineup of active sega consoles.
Nowe i just need a MasterSystem, Genesis mk1, SegaCD, and Sega32x to complete my SEGA collection to my liking lol

Great memories guys.
I have so many memories of the little white box! I remember September 9, 1999 when I got it brand new.
I remember getting Sega Rally 2 and the steering wheel and playing it for hours!
I remember breaking one of the buttons in the steering wheel because of my violent movements playing Crazy Taxi.
I remember staying up until 6am playing through Skies of Arcadia, what a great game.
I remember playing Phantasy Star Online with friends, we had such a blast!
I remember blowing up my brother into kibbles ‘n’ bits in Quake 3 Arena!
I remember the first time I played Shenmue II on my Dreamcast (not the XBOX, thank you!) and loving every moment of it. I loved beating that kid at darts in the arcade! lol
I wanna play some Dreamcast right now… :-D

Yay Dreamcast!
Had mine since day one. It eventually died but then I bought another one used for cheap.
I still use the thing for bits of Street Fighter Three, though for my emulation and homebrew fix I have turned to the Wii now.
I also have both the 1.0 and 1.1 versions of Sonic Adventure.
Yes there actually is a slight differnce in the two.
Personally I like 1.0 best. Everything happens a tad faster.
I sure wish SEGA would release a limited edition portable Dreamcast just for the heck of it.
Just incase my current one dies on me.
Though aparently the TreamCast is still out there somewhere xD
Well, Happy Dreamcast day.
I’m gonna pop in some good ol Jet Grind Radio and see if I can still download indecent images from the internet to spray paint all over the virtual Japanese streets.
Oh and the 4×4 Evo servers are still up. Only one server room, but it all works. I may try that too.

man its amazing, how many other consoles that are presumed ‘dead’ have this much community support?
Dreamcast never died, it still parties on, way way past a simple “novelty in nostalgia” that other consoles have in their legacy.
Only one in comparison is the PSX in my opinion, i still see much love for that system, difference is, Sony continues the BC in the PS3 so its available to everyone anyways.

@Volvagia
Pretty sure Kogen was joking, considering he posts pretty frequently on here. Unrelated, but I think he called me a cock one time.
Anyway, everyone pour a little bit of your dranky-drank out for our much-loved Dreamcast. I’ll be playing Marvel vs Capcom 2 in honor.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREAMCAST!
…7 maids-a-milking
…6 maids-a-milking
…5 maids-a-milking!!!
My favorite Dreamcast moment was when I played Jet Grind Radio for the first time.
A less favorite moment was when a douche-bag GameStop manager told me that GameStop didn’t carry Dreamcast games because it was ‘too old’, and the “oldest system [they] have is N64″, when there was a Playstation 1 bin right there.
Ass.
I love playing Bleemcast stuff, and I’m still working on my NTSC-U collection. Roughly 60 games down, about 190 to go!
I love my Dreamcast. It’s a shame that I couldn’t play Shenmue II on it because I’m in the US. I know I could import, etc., but the save file doesn’t transfer to PAL.

i didnt buy it on time but i loved it so i have 3 now and i have to tell that DC is the console that more fun i have had in my life. dvd? well, sega put a lot of fun instead of DVD. a taste that just few could see. even its name had a great meaning DREAM-CAST. just compare this to any other name in the market. it is just poetic-philosophic.
thanks for all those ours that we expended together HAPPY 9th B-DAY DC!!!!!

I have to say something about the end of the video, the power is never off on the Dreamcast!
Ahhhhh, memories… but how can it be memories if you still play it?
I will continue to play it as long as there is a Dreamcast that I own!

Happy Birthday little guy! You still sit happily hooked to the television 9 years, 7 homes and 4 tv sets later. Always there for imported JSR fixes, maraca workouts or Sonic Adventure 2 time trials.
