Yakuza 2 to be on one disc
Posted by George. Filed under George, North America, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with interview, Yakuza 2.

For those of you not in the know, Yakuza 2 in Japan was released on 2 single layered DVD discs, but for the USA and Europe release of the game it will come in a single dual layer disc. Sega’s Kevin Frane tells Siliconera:
The Japanese version was originally released on two DVDs, while the U.S. version will be released on a single, dual-layer DVD. In terms of actual content, however, nothing has been cut from the original Japanese version.
This is good news for lazy people (me) and people who have a faulty PS2 that gives them disc read errors everytime they insert a game (also me). Other things in the Silconera interview include why they left the original Japanese track. The game will also have all the license brands and Japanese products that where in the Japanese release, unlike Shenmue that had Coca-Cola replaced in the west with Jet Cola.
Yakuza 2 will be released on September 9th in the United States and on September 28th in Europe. Make sure to pick up your copy.
[Edit: According to the great knowledge database that is Wikipedia, it states that the game is out in Europe on September 28th. However Sega Europe has told us that it is actually out on September 19th in Europe. Not sure who you guys believe - but I'd be looking in shops on the 19th ;o) ]

“unlike Shenmue that had Coca-Cola replaced in the west with Jet Cola.”
In the west it was Jet Cola, in Japan it was Coca Cola.
“In the original Japanese edition of Shenmue, the trademarked Coca Cola logo is seen in various locations.”

@dredragoon - Well the game was originally released in Japan about 3 weeks after the PS3 launched.
I’m not sure how long it had been in development for, but I’m guessing Sega didn’t want to spend extra development costs on making the game for the PS3 at the time.
At least not when they had the game engine all setup for the PS2, and the PS2 was still a fairly common platform for games to come out on.
-Also there was the “promise” that the PS3 would be fully backwards compatible with PS2 games.

My PS2 can’t read dual-layer DVDs very well :( It’s a common problem with older PS2s. It doesn’t necessarily mean DRE messages, but will slow down or freeze games and videos on DVD9s.

The way you do the language is you keep the subject and direct object, but you replace every other word with a form of fuck or shit. example: Fuck you, you shit! I’ll fuck your shit up you fucker.
I just finished Condemned 2. There’s a game with swearing, but it’s a lot more believable. It doesn’t feel like it’s thrown in there to get an M rating.

Well Graham you shouldn’t have bought a 40gb ps3.
This is exactly my point of people buying the 40gb. Sony says, most people who buy the 40gb already own a ps2. But it’s a hassle to own two machines sepearately when you can just have one.. Bring back the 60gb!
apologies for the rant.. But I really can’t stand the 40gb (nothing personal Graham)…
