The other day we reported that Headstrong Games would be announcing their new Wii title at this year’s Leipzig Games Convention.Rumours and speculation have been flying around since last night as to what the game might be, and due to some leaked information, many people were right on the money - a new House of the Dead game is headed for the Wii.

Sega has now officially announced the game, and we can give you all the juicy details, screenshots and the uncut trailer above (apparently the original one on YouTube was cut).

Check after the break for more details, screenshots and official press release.

Product Info

They’ve come for brains, you’ll give them bullets!

The House of the Dead: OVERKILLTM charges you with mowing down waves of infected, blood-thirsty zombies in a last-ditch effort to survive Bayou City and uncover the horrific truth behind the origins of the House of the Dead.

Survival horror as it’s never been seen before! A pulp-style take on the classic SEGA light-gun shooter series. Back when the famous Agent G was still fresh out of the academy, he teamed up with hard-boiled bad-ass Agent Washington to investigate stories of mysterious disappearances in small-town Louisiana. Little did they know what blood-soaked mutant horror would await them in the streets and swamps of Bayou City.

Features:

• Pulp Funk Horror.

Zombie cool, one of the most popular shooter classics injected with a whole new retro b-movie look.

• An utterly in-your-face zombie-dismembering blast.

Non-stop light-gun style action on Wii, blow apart zombies for high-score thrills.

• Superb co-op action on Wii.

Bring a friend and play the game as intended in your own buddy action movie as two of the meanest characters in video gaming.

• Relentless, gore-drenched, over-the-top action.

Only the coolest, most cold-hearted agent’s going to keep his head against the zombie flood. Use “Slow-Mofo Time” to make the perfect head-popping shot and “Evil Eye” to spot moments of opportunity that’ll send the whole environment up in flames.

• Wiimote reactions.

Get knee-deep in the dead with motion-sensitive Wii-controls. Shuck a shotgun and when the zombies get too close, pistol whip jaws off or cave some heads in with the stock of your pump-action - all in stomach-churning close-up.

The House of the Dead: OVERKILL Brings Pulp Horror Action to Wii

LEIPZIG (August 19th, 2008) - SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced The House of the Dead: OVERKILL, an all-new  pulp-horror reinvention of the classic SEGA light-gun shooter franchise.  Created by London-based studio Headstrong Games, The House of the Dead: OVERKILLwill take you right back to the beginning of this classic horror series. Available exclusively on the Nintendo Wii early in 2009 and announced to coincide with Games Convention at Leipzig, The House of the Dead: OVERKILLwill be presented live by developer Headstrong Games for specially invited members of the press in SEGA’s business centre suite.

The House of the Dead: OVERKILLuncovers the ugly, terrifying, red hot secrets behind the House of the Dead; the daddy of all over-the-top shooters.  While staying true to the classic gameplay this hugely successful SEGA series is getting a new retro look, with distinctive graphics, sound and attitude that will add to its horror cool status.  Plus, thanks to the Wii RemoteTM, players will fight off zombies when they get too close; pistol-whipping jaws off and smashing in skulls with their shotgun butt.

“We wanted to do something really different with The House of the Dead: OVERKILL,” commented Bradley Crooks, Studio Head at Headstrong Games. “With SEGA we’ve been able to create a fresh look for the franchise. I think you’ll agree it’s like nothing you’ve seen before on Wii.”

“Paying homage to the pulp horror comics and films that inspired generations of gore fans, The House of the Dead: OVERKILLwill expose gamers to a brand-new fleshy rollercoaster ride of revolting dismemberment,” commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director at SEGA Europe. “This is the hardcore Wii title you’ve been waiting for.”

The House of the Dead: OVERKILL takes you back to when Special Agent G was fresh out of the academy.  Teamed up with hard-boiled bad-ass Detective Washington, they are sent to investigate stories of mysterious disappearances in small-town Louisiana. Little do they know what blood-soaked mutant depravity awaits them in the streets and swamps of Bayou City…

The House of the Dead: OVERKILL will be released in early 2009, exclusively for Nintendo Wii. For more information about the game, please visit http://www.houseofthedeadoverkill.com/.

Exciting news, huh?  At least now we understand that Headstrong Games postcard (below)… kind of.

House of the Dead Overkill

I love the trailer, and the game looks like it could be shaping up to be pretty damn good.  House of the Dead is my favourite light gun franchise, and I cannot wait to see more of this game.

The real question is what the Daily Mail will have to say about yet another violent Sega game “ruining the Wii’s family fun image” ;o)

Slow-Mofo Time alone makes this the best Wii game so far.

Ok, NOW im excited. I love the retro b-movie feel to it. Itll at least make the purposly campy acting feel like it belongs!

i noticed int he video though, all you get is a crosshair, but in one of the screenshots i see the Deagle. Whats up with that?

But what about House of the Dead one?

Nice to see an origonal title though.
Graphics need some fine tuning I’d say. Looks like the “Nights” treatment. Good until you look at it at the wrong angle. Though the textures look really nice on the zombies themselves. I wont hold my breath for that to be improved. :/

I hope that after this Sega will feel its time to release House of the Dead 1 with some Typing of the Dead and a dreamcast-ish Wii USB keyboard.
Maybe one with a wiimote slot for light gun games. Dual use and rumble support!

Still waiting for House of the Dead 4 to make it to the Wii though.
Hope this one does well and plays as fun as it looks.

I hope they think out new innovative mechanics that set some standard in the rail shooter genre instead of pulling a Nintendont and “TACK” on some waggle controls, just 4 the sake of” look, we have motion controls” I love the look and feel so far, where is Quinten??

I’d like to see them do a cross between FPS and Lightgun game.
Like making use of the analogue stick on the nunchuck - to maybe rotate the camera in 360 degrees. But still have the game move along a set path.
-Kind of like a first person Panzer Dragoon game… with Zombies. Or something.

I’m actually a little horney. I love the House of the Dead. I just wish I could play 4. The only place around here that has it is a movie theater kind of far away.

More interactive environments would be nice.
like with things on the background that do awesome stuff or just the unexpected but logical result. Oh, wait a minute here, that’s why i am working on my own rail shooter O_O Hope I can make it work….Sell it to sega later ^^
