Summer of Sonic: Live performances

I know some of you will have seen these acts on YouTube by now, but here’s our own video footage of the live performances from this year’s Summer of Sonic. Sorry if it’s a little late - but I blame the Internet! I edited them quite quickly, it then took most of the day (I’m talking bloody hours) for them to upload. *Shakes fist wildly at a passing duck*
Anyway, taking to the stage was Lee Brotherton (aka Bentley Jones), TJ Davis and Richard Jacques for some great, live performances of Sonic music, which can all be seen after the break.
I managed to grab a spot up on a tiny balcony, watching over the hall - which was so full of clutter and crap, that it was soon, endearingly, labelled “The Crows Nest” by pretty much everyone who saw it.
I have separated the performances into four videos, three for each of the artists main pieces and then one last one for a special joint act with all the performers… which was well worth the wait on the day, I assure you.
So sit back and enjoy the show.

We do still have one last article for Summer of Sonic to come. I’m currently in the process of editing all the (7 Gbs of) video taken on the day, and hope to give you a good round up of the show as a whole, which includes cracking footage of a Sonic Quiz.
Hopefully it will upload quicker than these files did! If not, it could be up in maybe a day or two. Stay tuned.

Richard Jacques is my hero! He’s always been a great composer ranging. I was introduced to him mainly through Jet Set Radio. Wish I could have seen him in person.

Jacques made the show, lee brotherton’s live versions were crappy compared to the ones used in game.

This event makes me smile. I’m usually embarrassed by nerd outs, but to see an event centered around a down and out mascot become this successful on the first try, with the likes of Brian JACQUES attending to give a free concert…it makes smile.
I’m sure a lot of the people whom fear for their masculinity will give this the usual middle finger…but this truly is a huge step forward, for what has usually been an embarrassing community.

Richard playing the Outrun section was awesome. Man, if i was there i would have been dancing to that shit. Turn the crowd into a nightclub or something, lol.
The added bonus of Dreams Dreams was wonderful. TJ Davis needs to be the singer for the next NiGHTS game…whenever they decide to make one.
Great event and i would certainly love to see this make a return sometime in the future.

I attended the Summer of Sonic event for an hour or so; for shame, I missed the live music. It’s a shame they’re obviously not on top form - Jacques is just playing his single keyboard line over a recorded backing beat!
I was astonished how negative the fans were, to be honest. You’d expect a fan gathering (it wasn’t large enough to be a full-blown convention! :P) to be full of bubbly, enthusiastic types - pretty much _everyone_ I bumped into seemed to be ripping on anything that wasn’t Chronicles. Probably wanted another go at the demo, I guess? For god’s sake, someone was wearing a Nintendo shirt! Either way, it really soured me on the idea of another Sonic community bash.

@Claris - I didn’t get that impression at all.
Admittedly I didn’t spend the whole day on the floor - a lot of time recording from the Crows Nest.
But I spoke to a few people and also listened in on some pretty passionate Sonic-based conversations.
The atmosphere felt great to me, and there was a lot of Sonic love in the air. ;o)
Sorry you didn’t have a similar experience.
Hopefully when my “Highlights” video gets finished you might see some of the fun people were having.
