Media morons bid to ban MADWORLD

MADWORLD

MADWORLD could be banned in the United Kingdom, thanks to “pressure group” Mediawatch-UK, reports the Daily Mail.

MADWORLD, has not yet received an age rating, and Mediawatch is hoping that the ‘powers-that-be’ don’t rate the game - meaning that it would not be allowed to be sold in the UK.

A lot of the anger has arisen because some people see the Wii as just a kids-only gaming system.  True, it has more kid-oriented games, but it is not meant to be just for kids - it’s ‘kid-friendly’ and it seems certain people are forgetting that people older than 15 own the system as well.

John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-uk, said: ‘This game sounds very unsavoury.

‘I hope the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will view this with concern and decide it should not be granted a classification.

‘Without that it cannot be marketed in Britain. What the rest of world does is up to them.
We need to ensure that modern and civilized values take priority rather than killing and maiming people.

‘It seems a shame that the game’s manufacturer have decided to exclusively release this game on the Wii.

‘I believe it will spoil the family fun image of the Wii.’

I’m not sure what to say on this matter, other than it’s pretty retarded.  Yes, the game is very violent, but it is not meant for kids.

While the Wii has more family-friendly games than the other consoles, perhaps the watchdog groups should look at the full selection of titles available before saying MADWORLD will ruin “the family fun image” of the system. Games like Resident Evil 4, Alone in the Dark 4, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Bully, Medal of Honor, Red Steel etc… and let’s not forget the new Dead Rising game for the system.

As I say, most of the games for the system are targeted more towards the family or younger kids, but there is still a decent selection of games that are suitable for older gamers only, so why can’t MADWORLD join the ranks?

And quite frankly, it is also very unrealistic. You would have to be raising some sort of inbred mutant children if they wanted to copy the acts in the game - and Darwin’s theory dictates that they should really be put down sooner rather than later.

I wouldn’t want this game to be aimed at the younger gamers out there, because (as I said) it is violent, but not to the extreme that older gamers who own a Wii should miss out on the fun. I hope the BBFC just slaps an 18 Certificate (equivalent to an Adults Only rating in the US) and tells Mediawatch to shut up.

I was afraid something like this would happen with Madworld. The Wii has brought in a lot of non-gamers who aren’t used to this level of violence. At the same time, why would they buy this game?

If this ends like manhunt 2 it will be very bad news for sega…

This is the Daily Mail we’re talking about, so I wouldn’t take any notice about what they say. Remember, it had the column with the mother who gave away a DS because it made her children ‘monsters’.

Oh yeah, this is the thing that is going to ruin the kids. Not the spy plains who literally fly around cities because they accidently let a ton of Afghans immigrate there during the war.

Glad to see they stay focused and know the real threat to society - video games. Money well spent.

Looks like there is someone behind this threat against Sega. LOL!

There is a conspiration! ;P

This game was never announced to Japan, so after this news, it means the game will never be released at here?

The japanese media said before that [MADWORLD] would not be released in Japan with the same aspects from the original version(free blood & explycit violence) untill a huge change about this.

Hmm… I want it ;D

The title says it all. “Morons”.

At least it’s free publicity. ;)

I think it is totally BS to single this game out when there are plenty of bloody games out there including the aforementioned games on the Wii. Since Nintendo cancelled Project HAMMER, I think the Wii needs this game. SEGA is picking up the slack on Nintendo’s system and bringing real “core” games to the system.

And they didn’t say anything about GTA: Chinatown Wars? Man, aside from Sonic love being greater, it sounds like it sucks to live in Europe (from a game standpoint, that is).

Yeah we do get dicked about quite a bit.

But what’s weird is we quite often get some games uncensored, when they are censored in other places like the US.

One game which springs to mind is Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude on the Xbox. Apparently the US version had a lot of the nudity edited out - whereas the EU (well UK one at least) had totally naked (CG) chicks.

Man I hate people sometimes.

Apparently, Nintendo’s defending SEGA’s game in an IGN article on this situation

John Beyer, the director of MediawatchUK, is basically a giant jackass. Here’s a quote from an article he wrote for the New Voice, a Christian broadcasting journal:

“The challenge that must be addressed, surely, is how to release the secular stranglehold on prime time television and radio and bathe in the light of Christ programming that occupies the screen in most households most nights of the week.”

GROAN.
