Hackers could have Sega’s Monkeys by their balls
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, iPhone/iPod. Tagged with Super Monkey Ball.

Well it was inevitable, it seems that some hackers have cracked the iPhone’s “Fairplay DRM,” and it a certain top-selling iTunes App by Sega is the main dish on the menu.
Super Monkey Ball is now being offered as a free, pirated download by HackLabs.
However, the legitimacy of this download is being questioned. Several users, at HackLabs, have been reporting successful downloads and installation of the application, while it seems a larger majority are finding the pirated game is not working on their iPhones.
Whatever the case, it is quite a worry to think that so soon after Apple launched the new applications for the iPhone, that hackers may have already cracked it, and are able to offer games and applications for free.
And after having to deal the problems of piracy on the Dreamcast, I think Sega might be anxious to hear that their number one selling application, on iTunes, could be subject to the same treatment.

That’s pretty funny, Ryan! (8D
The picture said it all.
It sucks that hackers always try to take the fun out of any game. This also goes for anything that is made for other games, consols and other mediums.
If that’s the case with being monitored by SEGA…

I always download games from teh interwebz. Then if I really enjoy them, I’ll buy them.
For example, supose I BUY Super Mankei Ballz. I play it for 15 minutes and I dislike it. Goodbye good money. But if I download it, if I like it, I’ll buy it. If I don’t try it first I wont buy it..

Very unfortunate, but like you said totally inevitable. Atleast Sega isn’t in the position that Nintendo is in right now regarding piracy. Sega or any publisher for that matter should be used to the fact that their software is going to get pirated.

@crackdude - I hear what you are saying.
But the prices of the iPhone’s games are pretty darn cheap - it’s not like you are spending $60 on the games.
However, I think Apple should do the ‘in thing’ and have demos available for all their game downloads.
Personally I don’t have a HUGE issue with piracy on old systems - where the companies no longer support them.
But I do kind of frown upon pirating games for current systems.
It’s naughty!

The only thing that’s gotten me is… who buys the monkeyball games? I have never known or seen anybody with a monkeyball game. Is this more for the Younger market?
