So it seems that Infinite Line, from Platinum games, has now been given it’s official name - Infinite Space.
At the original press conference, Infinite Line, was one game that the company did not talk much about - and could only show us a few early development screens.
Well not too much has changed there, we still only have a few concept pieces - three ships from the game.
But Sega has revealed some juicy details on the game’s premise. More details after the break.
SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today revealed more information on Infinite Space, the new role-playing game exclusively for the Nintendo DS portable handheld system. In Infinite Space, players will assemble a spaceship armada and embark on a cosmic adventure that will allow them to delve deep into the vast outer reaches of space, exploring a universe filled with planets and interstellar organizations each with their own culture.
Produced by Atsushi Inaba and directed by Hifumi Kouno (of Nude Maker), the powerhouse team is developing a highly detailed game and universe that fits perfectly onto the Nintendo DS. Infinite Space follows the story of Yuri, a young crewman that journeys the galactic frontier and slowly moves up the ranks to become captain of his own spaceship fleet. Using over 150 blueprints, players will build and customize a huge array of space ships and have over 200 crewmen to recruit. Players will battle their way through space to become the strongest fleet in the galaxy while exploring new planets and solar systems.
Infinite Space delivers excellent replay value with an epic storyline containing multiple branching story arcs that weave together seamlessly to create one epic tale set amongst the stars. The gameplay depth and replayability of Infinite Space make it stand out from any DS title currently in the market. The game also features multiplayer combat through local wireless connection for up to two players.
“Infinite Space will be one of the most detailed and ambitious RPG title developed for the DS to-date,” said Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “The attention to detail in creating the massive universe and the immense sci-fi content packed into this game ensures countless hours of brilliant gameplay to satisfy all RPG fans.”
Infinite Space will be available for the Nintendo DS portable handheld system in 2009.
All sounds quite exciting to me. I’ll be interested to see just how the DS can handle a game with so much potential. I’m imagining something along the lines of the Elite games - but with less freedom.
