Key-carrying action!

A video (presumably from E3 has surfaced on Youtube detailing a few of the other speed style levels from Sonic Unleashed as well as finally revealing some footage of the much hushed-up Were Sonic segments.

They look like standard brawler fare, but don’t take my word for it! Check it out for yourselves!

You’ll also note a vocal theme for the game. For some reason we haven’t quite moved past those yet, I suppose. Ah, well. A man can dream, can’t he?

This trailer makes me PUMPED! As pumped as I was when I played the SA2 demo. The secret to a good Sonic game is keep it simple and have sonic be the star. Sonic vs. Eggman = classic. Werehog = just as original as Tails in Sonic 2, Knuckles in Sonic 3 and the 3D world of SA1&2. After that things became too cluttered. Over explaining Shadow’s backstory, combos, team-ups, alternate hedgehogs, princesses…

The Sonic parts still look as awesome as ever (Did you see that slow-motion jump during the QTE? I was like OMG so good)

The Werehog parts on the other hand…. not so hot…. looks kinda boring compared to Sonic’s parts… If this is the best footage they could come up for the Werehog parts then I’m getting a little worried…

Dang, Werehog is slow. Why is it Sonic Team’s common practice to drag down core gameplay that works with distractions that don’t?

OK, I’ll wait till the final product comes till ultimately judging. But I think my Sonic Unleashed Dangerometer just went up from Bright Yellow to Yellow-Orange.

The running segments look good.
The were wolf part looks like a cheap Crash Bandicoot clone or some crap.

Very very bad.

Heres a tip SEGA.
Remember sonic 3?
Ya, well, take what you have here and replace were-sonic with Super Sonic.
Ya, really, I know it’s way out there but trust me, people will like it.

I just wanna see lots of running, fast game play, plenty of robots to smash with designs that fit the area’s themes.
Fully Playable super sonic unlockable.
Sub bosses, actual per level BOSSES!

This is just what we get for saying “No more new charectors”
In trade we get a new sonic instead.
We want sonic, just sonic, nothing more, nothing less.
Really, were the other charectors all that bad?

Also wheres Were-tails and were-knuckles.
Also Were-ammy.
and Were-eggman
heck, leys were-arobot

OH well, atleast its half decent and theres the Sonic RPG on the DS wich looks good.

Truth be told, it really wouldn’t be a Sonic Team game without some sort of vocal theme. That practice goes all the way back to the Saturn. A bit further if you count Sonic CD, even–which wasn’t technically an ST game, but still.

As for Were-Sonic, he’s HUUUGE THAT MEANS HE HAS HUUUGE GUTS RIP AND TEAR! RIP AND TEAR YOUR GUTS OUUUT

*chuckle* Heh, honestly, though, it looks like it could be fun tearing through swaths of enemies as the trailer makes it seem like you’ll be doing–especially with that combo meter there. I won’t disagree that it seems out of place stylistically, but whatever.

The Werehog sections are still pretty much an unknown factor until we get some playtime. From here, it looks very much like a Ninja Turtles or Spiderman: Friend or Foe type brawler, which kids (my son, especially) will love.

But even if you found that part troublesome… Come on! The rest of that trailer (gameplay footage, theme song, beyond-awesome cutscenes) were HOT!

The Were-Sonic parts reminded me of the slow points of sonic adventure like with him picking up the object to open the door.

On the other hand I think everything else was extremely satisfying… JUST SONIC… except for Were-Sonic.

Robotnik looks fierce this time and he actually tries to kill Sonic.

quick question, didn’t all this vocal theme song stuff star with Sonic CD? *Reads Angelo post* I guess so, and that came out just after Sonic 2.

When looking at Were-Sonic’s gameplay it makes me kinda think of a slower version of Knuckles, were they spent a lot more time with the fighting mechanics. If they can come up with some good fighting mechanics for Werehog it should be enough to balance out the normalization of Sonic’s speed (fancy way of saying making sonic run at a normal speed).

Still, with the advent of the Werehog’s slower gameplay, I am still interested in this game as it looks to be a far more solid of a Sonic title than we have had it recent time.

This trailer does not lift my hopes at all. The fact that Sonic turns into a Were-wolf is a big enough insult. Now they tarnish the game further by throwing this Busted/McFly/PopCockRock music all over the thing.

Is it just me or are Sega great at contradicting themselves? They said they made the ‘Hedgehog Engine’ to bring Sonic back to his old roots and his old style of gameplay, right? So why on EARTH did they have to throw this ‘Werewolf/hog/tard’ thing into the same game? It breaks the flow of the game they’re trying to make with that facking engine, doesn’t it. This whole werewolf bollox should have been put into a completely different game. It is so out of place, it is unbelievable.

God, Sega. Stopping raping your mascot already. This is becoming too sad to watch :(

Shut the fuck up guys, damn. This game is looking amazing, sega don’t need to listen to some pasty face fanboys like yourselves, there on to a hit, and come this winter we’re gonna be given a grand adventure, so go jump off a fucking cliff somewhere.

For anyone interested, I took the impossible-to-see 4-way screen from the trailer and split it up to make it easier to see.

It has a few of the platforming sections for WereSonic, and shows off a couple of really cool-looking boss fights.

There may be still hope yet.

Just though of this: Sonic = fast feet, Werehog = strong arms. Sounds like a nice balance to me. I hope Wallace & Gromit cameo. Sonic and Wallace could enjoy some chili dogs with extra cheese.

Why o why do they have to include some crappy were hog mode into the game. Whats the point dont these Fu<k Wits at Sonic Team get it, we’d just be happy with the awsome looking Sonic parts of the game, dont dilute the most awsome looking sonic game in years with some wannabe god of war rip off bull.

To Ross,

First, we don’t know if its going to be good or bad as we have only seen a few videos, for all we know the combat for Werehog may be just as enjoyable as the high speed gameplay of Sonic’s. It also seems to have a similar speed of that of Sonic Adventure (which save for the classic three, was not over board with speed).

Second, the reason for Werehog is because most people want a Sonic only game, but people also want some of the Sonic Adventure gameplay as well. This way we get a brake from going 700+ MPH all the time and we get to enjoy some exploration and slower paced platforming along with some combat with other characters like Shadow and Silver taking over.

Third, it’s more of a cross of God of War and One Piece.

Personally, I don’t care about what gameplay they add to the game as long as they do it well. If Werehog’s levels are done with the same polish that Sonic’s levels are, I doubt that anyone would complain about Werehog at all.
