First screenshots of AM2’s new racer revealed

Actually the above shot is the worst looking one, but it has a Sonic car. So that has to count for something. The only thing I can complain about is the people being cardboard cutouts. Though knowing Japan, I’m sure they do place cutouts of themselves in the streets. You never know when a ninja assassin is after you. I really like how the bright colors pop in these screenshots.
Also check out Game Watch for more pictures on other Sega arcade titles and Asian girls standing next to arcade cabinets with forced smiles.

2D sprite crowds in this day and age with the kind of graphical horsepower is rather disappointing. The game looks interesting outside of that, though.

It’s not like you’ll see the crowds while racing anyway.
Just a whole lota lights blurring past you

Pasting SA art on crap got old a long time ago, why must AM2 do that?
Otherwise, I hope this just plays as fun as the rest of their racing gaming.

Sega need not sully their reputation with this need for speed underground bullshit.
Leave this garbage to EA, and those morons whom listen to Likin park and masturbate to the fast and the furious.
Sega used to be a company that didn’t pander, they made games they enjoyed playing and thus we enjoyed.

We haven’t even played further more, the gameplay looks nothing like Burnout or Need for Speed, it looks more like something from Outrun.
And I have no idea were the Burnout clones comment comes from, SEGA Race TV is NOTHING like Burnout.

I think this is SEGA/AM2’s attempt to break into the arcade street racing segment that NAMCO currently dominates with Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune. I don’t know why they would since Initial D draws just as many crowds as its rival, but any new developments from AM2 makes me happy.
It’ll be interesting to see what they bring to the table, and with a rumored XBOX360 port in the works they already have an edge-up over Namco. Which will probably force them into porting Maxi Tune finally, and my 360’s existence will be justified…

That looks nice, but the 15th anniversary of Daytona USA is coming up, and I want to see the drifting stock cars once again…
