SoS! It’s the Summer of Sonic!

In 2006, fansite The Sonic Stadium, started a fun event for Sonic’s 15th birthday - “Summer of Sonic.” The 2006 event was an online-only community event, with features and contests for Sonic fans everywhere.
This year, the event is much bigger, and will not be an online-only affair. Led by the combined efforts of The Sonic Stadium and Sonic Wrecks, with support from Sega Europe, are bringing the event to London, for a much more involving experience.
The Summer of Sonic is a free-to-attend event for Sonic the Hedgehog fans to meet up, have fun and enjoy playing games together. Sonic the Hedgehog is a computer game franchise that began in 1991 on the SEGA Mega Drive console, and has become an international phenomenon ever since. Today, kids and adults who grew up with the series enjoy games, cartoons, comics, music CDs and an assortment of merchandise.
However, don’t let the name fool you. Even though it is “Summer of Sonic” the physical event will actually only take place during the course of one day.
On 9th August 2008, there will be a place where the Sonic Community can come together and chat about their favourite hedgehog, read comics, listen to defining music in the series, play the latest Sonic games and win awesome prizes!
You’ll be able to play games, from classic Sonic titles to some newer ones - I’m told that Sonic Chronicles should be playable at the event (baring any major catastrophes). On show will be official merchandise, plus fan work, and a live stage show! There will also be contests, with some Sonic goodies up for grabs.
The event is free and open to everyone, but it has been advised/requested that any who wishes to attend signs up at the official Summer of Sonic website - if the day proves very popular, then the organisers might need to turn people away from the doors (you know, health and safety jargon) - So by signing up on the site, you should be able to ensure yourself entry on the day.
There’s a hell of a lot going on, so for full information about the event, and details on how to sign up, check the official site now. It should be enough for any hardened Sonic fan/Sega Nerd to enjoy.
I am hoping to attend myself, so I should be able to bring you all back some lovely photographs and videos, and maybe see a few of you there too ;o)

So how about Sonic Unleashed? Would that make a appearance there too?
Might be interested to go, if I have the time.

Do you really need to advertise this crap for them?
Not really much else to say. I am sure everyone knows how lame the event is and how much the people running it suck. Just click the two links for example…

I agree with Kogen, I think we should all setup a fund for SpongeAlex of the SoA boards for a one way trip to Europe for Summer of Sonic.

@ Aki-At - I have been told that there should be some form of Sonic Unleashed there, but most probably not playable.
We’ll see closer to the time though!

Hey i’ve been banging the idea for years but alas i’m a brit and we don’t do conventions as good as americans and the websites i’ve mentioned this idea kinda was lukewarm to it. SEGACON would be the perfect place to get fans together, get all sorts of memorbillia together and at one point get the people behind the games to attend and talk about stuff from SOA to Japan and even outside. Sega’s big enough to get a con of their own if some entreprising american can make it happen.

Bloody waste of time, unless there’s free food. Free food makes everything worthwhile.
Now bring back the forums! :(

Come on guys let’s be a bit more positive about it if only for the nice people who struggled to get it going!
I will definetly be there with my fellow Sonic fans if I am not somewhere in sunny Portugal. :)
There will be some very nice surprises as well so dont miss out if you are able to go but I think everyone needs to register interest at official website.

People hosting the event = tards. The Sonic franchse’s developers at the moment = tards. Therefore the event is very tarded.
Like I said before, just look at the front page of the sites hosting it, mostly Sonic Wrecks. I am sure Doctor SEGA Monkey can back me up on the other (that darn fool dared to say he did not like Nintendo very much!).

Oh please Kogen, don’t talk about stuff you don’t know shit about.
Sonic Stadium is a great website with a great staff, and Dreadknux is a great boss. Not to mention, he watches this site and even posts here on occasion. TSS isn’t like all the other shit Sonic sites out there, and they are at least as great and as credible as this place is.
Summer of Sonic was a great online event, and Dreadknux is really good at setting. I don’t have much respect for the Sonic community, but TSS definitely doesn’t deserve the kind of crap your giving it right now.

The Sonic franchise may be shit at the moment, but with TSS setting it up it’s still going to be a fun event.

By the way, I apologize for the damn double post, which will probably undermine everything I just said. My internet is being a bit whacky today.

OMG their splash page has fanarty stuff on it!!
Kogen’s never liked me, so his reaction is not particularly surprising. I take it we won’t be expecting you.
If you want to come along, meet some fellow Sonic fans and have a fairly entertaining time make sure you sign up.
Cheers

$300 goes to anyone who will dress in a Tails furry costume and sexually violate Graham during the event.
Participants must take video and photo evidence of their crime, and email it to us at seganerds@gmail.com.
