Sega has a lot of well known franchises in the past that fans really want to have a comeback. I have decided to share with you with you my favorite past games to make a comeback.

10. Vectorman - The green machine that blasted his way into our hearts during the 16 bit era should make a comeback. The world needs more games like this and this game was classic. Both games oozed with awesomeness. I wouldn’t want this game to be 3-D though, I would like Vectorman 3 (yes, fucking 3) on the Nintendo DS or PSP. Why doesn’t Sega use their old IPs and make real sequals to them like other publishers? (look at Contra 4)

comixzone.png09. Comix Zone - This game was amazing to me when it first came out. Sure it was short, but it was a amazing play through. I think this game would be awesome as a handheld or PSN/XBLA release. This game had style that you could only find in the 90’s. Most games now are all too serious! Viewtful Joe reminded me of this game, Sega could use that paper look for the game if they decide to bring it over to next generation systems. Though I think it should still be on a 2-D plane.

08. Shinobi - Ninjas are awesome, fact. I was one of the few that loved Shinobi on the Playstation 2. But I think it should have not featured Hotsuma but the original ninja master Joe Musashi. Obviously he should be in the comeback game and skip playing with his son and all the other non sense. Also they should bring Yuzo Koshiro to do the soundtrack. That would be some awesome stuff. Ninja games are pretty popular and Shinobi is the best Ninja franchise ever, only rivaled by Ninja Gaiden.

phantasystarremake.jpg07. Phantasy Star - I love the original Phantasy Star games. I know that Phantasy Star is getting those Sonic Team games, but I don’t want that and I know that Phantasy Star 4 was meant to be the last one. I want remakes of the first four titles on Xbox Live/Wii Ware/Playstation Store. Why? Well we deserve it! Japan has gotten a lot of remakes on the ages series and we deserve our own. Most companies are remaking classic franchises, I think Sega should do it. I mean Rez did really well.

06. Fighters Megamix - This is Sega’s mash up game and it was great. Having a mixture of more franchises into this would be awesome. There are so many franchises Sega can use that this game can top more than 150 characters and there will still be fans whining that someone didn’t get in! Also this game having Virtua Fighter 5 graphics makes my mouth water. The soundtrack should be all popular Sega composers coming together for this one soundtrack! This game would be epic.

shiningforce3.jpg05. Shining Force - Shining Force isn’t really a dead franchise, but I want them to return it to its SRPG goodness. After seeing how Valkyria Chronicles is, I want more SRPGs from Sega. Get Camelot to do this game, they aren’t forced to work with Nintendo only. They can also put all scenerios of the third game on XBLA and PSN. This would be great, 800 points each for each scenario would make them the best selling XBLA games. Beating out Sega’s own Rez. Do it SEGA!

04. Jet Set Radio - This is one of those games that leave you pondering on how much drugs Smilebit takes. I say just enough. This game was amazing when it came out on Dreamcast and I think a new one on Wii would sell. You can use the wiimote to spray some tags, run through huge cities, and share designs on Wifi. Most of the original team is still at Sega, it all fits together so perfectly.

skiesofarcadia.jpg03. Skies of Arcadia - This game was underappreciated and deserves a comeback. The world was so amazing and the characters outshined its problems. This is rare now with all the melodramatic JRPGs. The team wants to make it and Rieko Kodama is wasting her talent on cell phone games or whatever the fuck. There are tons of rumors about this coming out, lets make it happened!

02. Shenmue - This is Yu’s masterpiece! The most awaited completion to a saga in gaming history. Sega needs to end this saga, not for profit or street creed (yeah I said that) but for the fans. Fans deserve a ending to one of the most beloved Sega games ever. Its like Sega is wasting our time with that Shenmue Online game we will never see. We want Shenmue 3, plain and simple.

panzerdragoonorta.jpg01. Panzer Dragoon - Panzer Dragoon was one of the best RPGs and one of the best rail shooters, not many franchises can say this. Panzer Dragoon Saga is one of those amazing games and rare ebay treasures. The game had a great art style that made it stand out from other games, also its own language. The game did return in the Xbox era and sadly failed. But that game was amazing and possibly the one of the best looking Xbox games. I would love the series to hit the 360 but with high development costs on that console i’d be as happy if it came out on Wii.

Your list is backwards.

A new Fighters Megamix would be really cool, actually. If it played like Smash Bros then it would seriously own.

Good list. :)

Totally agree with the list, and with Virtual On of course.

We need a new Shinobi, and since Itagaki is now free, ger him Sega and make the best action game of all time, with Yuzo Koshiro and Richard Jacques music.

Panzer Dragoon RPG 2, Skies of Arcadia 2 and Shenmue 3 on Xbox360 (and PS3), not Wii.

Fighters Megamix 2 not as a brawling game, but as a fighting game like the original, this time with almost all Sega characters, from Sonic to Vyse, from Akira to Joe Musashi, from Ryo Hazuki to Sakura Shinguki, from Kazuma Kiryu to Temjin, and so on.

C’mon Sega hire me and make and start re-making the GREAT SEGA GAMES :D

All of these are obvious choices.

The original PS2 Vectorman got canned because it was straying too much away from the original game and apparentely the main protagonist looked
too much like Master Chief.

I know a Comix Zone sequel was planned for Saturn at one point, but nothing came out of it.

Some of those franchises had the terrible luck of being released at a time that a console was dying.

Shining Force 3 was never sucessfull since it was released in the last days of the Saturn.

Shinobi would need a serious makeover after the PS2 outings, I mean make something big like Ninja Gaiden.

As far as Shenmue goes… I hate to say this, but that it’s pointless, at this time I actually wish this series had never existed.

It has gone from a great game to a pointless and endless cycle of spamming on boards and even Sega’s official blogs… Honestly, no game in existance is worth this much attention.

It also doesn’t help Sega since everytime Shenmue is mentioned, gamers and some fans belittle everything releases now and will release in the near future… I think it’s time to move on.

It’s quite clear to everybody that that IP is dead and buried.

A Skies of Arcadia sequel I can dig and Panzer Dragoon would be a nice bet too.

A Daytona USA title really needs some love too.

A FPS-version of Virtua Cop would also be nice.

An actual RPG with Virtua Fighter characters would be nice too.

And a remake of Last Bronx.

If I don’t get any of these, too bad…

With the modern sEgA, the chance of not getting any of these is pretty high… :(

I forgot about Virtua Fighter RPG aka Quest (not the crappy Virtua Quest for PS2), and a Virtua Cop FPS wuould be a good idea, but developed in Japan.
Daytona and Last Bronx too!!

How many great titles…(that we’ll never see).

I will likely not sell as much as the fans want to you to beleive…
People have been begging for a Nights sequel since forever, claiming that people would flood the stores by the hundreds to pick up this title.

Nights: Jorney of Dreams barely sold 300.000 units, a 10-year hype for nothing.

I don’t want any of those classics being humilliated like this…

Great list.
Two others that pop into mind, would be Space Channel 5: Part 3 and Streets Of Rage 4

@yusaku - i’m from the NiGHTS fanbase. Indeed there was always talk for a sequel but you’d also not believe how many people from the fanbase were actualy against a sequel ever being made. After Sega started to lose their touch less people from the actual fanbase wanted a sequel and it was websites like IGN/etc hyping up the old NiGHTS game because we were the cult following and everybody kinda jumped on board the hype. Truth is there were more people from OUTSIDE of the NiGHTS fanbase asking for a sequel than there was inside.

Sad thing is JoD failed not because us fans were hard to please but because JoD seemed to insult the fans a bit too much rather than give them what they waited over a decade for. I have to agree that with you on the fact that Sega should not bring back old titles if they’re just going to rush them…which is sadly what the NiGHTS fanbase got. :/

Hi. I am from the NiGHTS fanbase too and all twelve of us agree: NiGHTS is a herm-clown. Thanks for your reading, see you next post!

Presented to you by KOGEN.

agreed with Kogen.

Of course Space Channel 3 would be flip.

A new Chakan: The Forever Man might be interesting, that could take off as a rebirth hit like prince of persia did.

Flicky - levels released on wiiware and Xbox-arcade

Ristar - have always wished for a sequel but this is one that a new one would never be as good as the orignal :(

Toe Jam & Earl are always welcome.

What’s with the 2 wankers thinking an Virtua Cop FPS is a good idea!?

Yes, let’s fookin shite on everything the Virtua Cop franchise has built. Virtua Cop 4 is a wet dream of mine, and should be a solid Lightsun shooter who reinvents a new revolutionair shooting system and sports a new score system. Nothing of that FPS shite for pc cunts…

Bare Knuckle 4 (streets of rage) would be another wish not coming true. But it should be a 2d, with the latest KOF quality graphics and the most solid fighting system a Beat’em up/Brawler ever had (and of course 4 player and 4 player tag attacks).

Shinobi is another series I would like to see with the latest KOF quality graphics. Or if it goes 3d I would like to see Joe Musashi fight gigantic mecha godzilla’s as normal enemies and Zeed’s latest incarnation Commanders (I just think humanoid boss fights are more intense).

Another title I would love to see return (as it should because it has a lot too make up after disasterous bad sequels) Spikeout Digital Battle Online sequel. Not like fookin’ Slashout, Spikers Battle or Battle Street. But a real follow up! Helmed by Nagoshi and the original team and not DIMPS! This time make it 10 players or something (and 10 player tag combo’s) and release it on Lindbergh so it can steal some thunder from Taito Type X2.

Although Rpg’s are pretty shite in my eyes, I would love to see Shining Force series and Wachenröder return, I like Stratefy RPG’s better. All the latest Shining games have been of the Roguelike genre like Shining Soul, Shining Tears (I haven’t played those new Shining Force games but those seem more like action-RPG’s or am I wrong and it’s another lvl-grinding Roguelike?).

I wish they can add Sonic in a new Fighters Megamix game when he was suppose to be in the first one. Smash Bros. is not a challenge for Sonic.

True, Nights: JoD was probably not the best game around, but I don’t know how an exact copy of the original Nights would do any better.

Which brings to why I beleive some gamers are way too picky on Sega.
If a new IP is released, there’s bitching and moaning all over the place as to why should Sega release.

If Sega ressurects an old IP, they get burned for grave-digging and they “rely too much on older franchises”.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t…

yusaku

Shenmue3, new Panzer Dragon and a good Shinobi are definitely the games i would like to see.

“If Sega ressurects an old IP, they get burned for grave-digging and they “rely too much on older franchises”.”

If it takes 10 years to resurrect a franchise, they aren’t relying on older franchises. Personally, outside of Sonic, I don’t think they’ve scratched the surface with their old franchises. If you look at Nintendo, they constantly refine and deify their old franchises. I’d like to see Sega show the same level of respect to their old franchises.

Nights: JOD feels unpolished and rushed, but I still enjoyed it. But, if they released an HD version on the 360/ps3 in all regions, it probably would’ve been better.

The only game on this list I really want is Shining Force 3: all scenarios, any console.
