The short list is out for the Golden Joystick 2008 awards, so get your votes in now!
There are a load of random catagories, named after various different media publications, including top UK magazines and newspapers.
The Golden Joysticks truly are the people’s gaming awards. Now in their glorious twenty sixth year, the Joysticks are also the oldest gaming awards ceremony in the world and the most prestigious – voted for by the only people who truly matter - gamers themselves.
Of course Sega has made it into the short list for quite a few (unfortunately not all) of the catagories. But now it is up to all of us to make sure they see some success this year!
I have set out the categories, and the games which Sega has been nominated for. But I have to be honest, each category has some serious competition for Sega’s titles, such as; GTA IV, Zelda, Halo 3, Guitar Hero, Mario Kart and Mario Galaxy (plus many more).
So check after the break for the listing and more details.
Short List:
- The Sun Family Game of the Year: Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
- Bliss Handheld Game of the Year: Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
- 4Talent Mobile Game of The Year: Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Dash! Mobile
- Nuts All Nighter: {Sega not placed}
- Nintendo Game of the Year: Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
- One to Watch: Sonic Unleashed
- Online Game of the Year: {Sega not placed}
- PC Game of the Year: Football Manager 2008
- PlayStation Game of the Year: {Sega not placed}
- Publisher of the Year: SEGA
- Retailer of the Year: {Sega not placed (obviously)}
- BBC 1Xtra Soundtrack of the Year: {Sega not placed}
- UK Developer of the Year: The Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, (Of note: Bizarre Creations, Traveller’s Tales)
- The Ultimate Game of the Year: {Sega not placed}
- Xbox Game of the Year: {Sega not placed}
I have added Bizarre Creations and Traveller’s Tales to the ‘UK Developer of the Year’ list because of their work with Sega on various games, such as The Club and Super Monkey Ball Adventures. So even though they are not owned directly by Sega, the choices would still be suitable for a Sega Nerd :o)
The only thing I’m annoyed about, is how some of Sega’s best games of the last year are not in the list. Like Viking: Battle for Asgard and Condemned 2. Oh well.
To see the full listings, with all the other competitors, then check the Golden Joystick website now. Let’s hope Sega wins big this year, Sega Nerds.

Ah, Webbsta. I recall finding his art for SMBA while looking for Twinsanity concept art.
Should Bizarre and TT really count, though? It’s not as if they work specifically for SEGA, they do plenty of other work, too. What if the game that they got the award for wasn’t a SEGA game?

But what if it was? It is better to over estimate it rather than under estimate.
I though the list was really lame, anyway.

Yeah but I think as they have done games (fairly recently) with Sega - that some Sega Nerds might feel a kindness to them.
Especially Bizarre Creations with The Club.

I just want to know where the Sega-robot-girlfriend article went. I had a witty comment lined up.

Ah thanks, but it’s not the same article. It went up but was taken straight down again. Had a lonely man being kissed by a robot.
