GAME announces the top 100 games of all time - voted by cretins

GAME Top 100

A while back we showed you a survey where UK retailer, GAME, was asking people to tell them what their favourite game of all time is.

Now the results are in, and quite frankly I think it’s just a shocking result. In fact, I don’t think I have ever been this annoyed by something so trivial in my life.

A few Sega-made games make the list, including Shenmue. But none of them make it into the top 15 - Sonic the Hedgehog was Sega’s highest at 19th place.

But bloody Call of Duty 4 makes it at number one?! Now my personal opinion on CoD4 is that it is over rated shite (and that’s me being polite). But for those of you out there that do enjoy the game - can you really look yourselves in the mirror and say:

CoD 4 is the best game I have ever played. Ever.

Well if you can, then I would be surprised and appalled by your lack of taste in gaming.  Now I can understand people liking the game, but the vote was supposed to be for the best game of all time.  Though some of the games do deserve their credit, but clearly the people that took the survey are judging a lot on recent games.

You could think I’m just pissed off that not enough Sega games made it, but I don’t even agree with Sega’s Mario and Sonic at the Olympics making the top 100. I enjoy that game, but there is no way I would include it in my top 100 of all time, let alone top 50!

It also annoys me how some games fall under ‘multiplatform’ and others which are multiplatform just have one console to their name. Bad show GAME, bad show.

News not even worth posting, G. When I saw the number one spot I just closed the window without caring what came next.

Ah well, we covered it a couple of months back, I thought some people might be interested to see how it turned out.
You know… see how many Nintendo games with Mario in the title made the top 20 ;o)

I think it’s relevant news that’s worth posting. It shows the gradual decline of the majority of gamers, and their view of the quality of Sega titles past and present. Kind of sad in several ways really.

Popularity contest. That’s all it came down to. Let’s face it; most of the people who voted probably only got into gaming after it all went PS2 mainstream. And they missed real gems…

Oh well. And yes. Voted by cretins for sure.

    Chris:
Agree, i just can’t believe Halo3 and Gow are on the Top 10(100 best games ever).

All top 100 lists are pure garbage. The top twenty are always full of questionable entries. People are prisoners of the moment, thus games like CoD4 will be ranked high.

If you could pick only one game to play forever, are there really people who would pick these?

How sad. I suppose we’re past the prime of video gaming, so we’re left with senseless profiteering, which will inevitably lead to the total elimination of quality games in favor of flashy cinematics and bright explosions, like the movie industry.

The worst part is that no one will notice or care because, as Kataztrophy said, they’re prisoners of the moment. Too bad; not just from the perspective of a SEGA nerd, but as a gamer in general.

    CoD 4? Seriously? =(

Oh, come on. Just because Sonic lost and CoD4 won, you instantly deem it a bad list. You didn’t even bother to check the whole list.

*Checkes the whole list* …Crash Bandicoot beat the likes of Pokemon R/B, SSBM and Doom? I’m a big Crash fan, but even I can say that’s stupid. And what the hell? Super Mario World is at #20 AND #69? Can’t they make up their minds?

Okay, now you can deem it a bad list.

…how in the fucking hell did that beat the likes of FF7 and Zelda? o.O And i’m not even on a level about Sega here either. How on earth did a friggin’ generic war game beat all those other legendary titles in the top 10…no…fuck that, top 20?!!?!

That’s shit, man. Just pure shit. Fuck GAME. Nothing but men in suits.

Yeah I used to love GAME. But now that they have beaten/bought out all the competition in the UK (well Gamestation) they are getting worse.

I went in the other day to pick up some original XBox games (which they had about 3 days before) and they have got rid of all of them.
-I asked about it and they just said “Oh yeah we aren’t doing the old games from last gen anymore, they have been sent back to head office”
To which I replied “Then why the hell do you still have tons of PS2 and GameCube games on your shelves?”
Answer: “Oh because the PS3 and Wii have full BC, so they sell”
-I got a bit annoyed- “Wait the PS3 in the US and Japan has full BC, but not here in the UK! In fact most PS3s sold over here don’t have any BC. Whereas the 360 does- so what the hell are you on about?!”
-I then spoke to a manager, and fortunately it didn’t get out of hand….

I’d say it’s unfortunate that it didn’t get out of hand. Graham, you should have at least kicked over the magazine rack on your way out!

WiiFit is number 29. That’s all you need to know about the validity of this list.

But, on the flipside, you have to consider that most of the people voting/spamming this list are 15-17 and when they were 6-8 we were seeing a switch from the PSOne to PS2. Unfortunately, these are the next generation of gamers and they are going to speak longingly about the good old days of ‘COD4′ and ‘GTA4′ like we talk about Sonic.

I’m surprised that Assassin’s Creed scored higher than CounterStrike: Source. I suppose the CS players are too busy playing CS to vote in a poll…
