Sega Superstars Tennis has now reached over a million copies sold world wide! If you didn’t find something to like in Sega Superstars Tennis, you are not a Sega fan! This game was a overdose of Sega love, sweet sensual Sega love.

This number comes from VGchartz, so it could be well off.  Something to add, the game hasn’t been released in Japan yet! Not that I think it would do that great there anyway.

Hopefully the game has profited enough and Sumo Digital will be allowed to make a new Sega Superstars game. Maybe a fighting game or a collection of minigames not involving tennis. That was the best part of Sega Superstars Tennis, the minigames. Though I’m sure all you guys have better suggestions, right?

Yeah I noticed that earlier.

Iron man should be hitting the million mark next week and TGC is slowly making its way to 2 mil. I’m really hoping Condemned 2 can make it too(780k currently).

This is awesome news! I love my Superstars Tennis to death - it’s the only game I play on the 360. A fighting game would be nice, but I like the collection of minigames more; something to waste away in for hours at a time, and that I can play with my sis.

I’m glad it’s doing well; it’s a really good game! I hope plenty of people have seen Zero Punctuation’s review of Condemned 2 - he really spoke the truth and said exactly what I was thinking about it. I’m glad it hasn’t hit 1 Million yet on account of it sucks. I hope Viking hits the 1 Million mark. I can’t put it down!!

I’m not surprised that the Wii version would sell the most. It’s been a habit of Sonic selling the most on a Nintendo system.

Congrats to SEGA! I’m glad to see that they are making some money. Now can we have SEGA Superstars Championship? (aka Fighters Megamix 2)

Yes, we need a SUpesrats fighting game, like Fighters Megamix 2, where finally Joe Musashi will battle Kazuma Kiryu that will battle Tyo Hzuki that will battle Rent A hero that will battle Akira that… :)

C’mon Sega and Sumo!!

Please, don’t make the racing game!!!!

P.S. oops, in the rush I wrote Tyo Hzuki instead of Ryo Hazuki, please don’t tell it to Lan Di :)

And today it’s SegaNerdz that jumps the shark by posting the numbers from VGchartz, a website that is well known to have made up, guesstimated numbers throughout the entirety of the site.

@ Anonymous… As we said in the article…

We it’s well known with several members here at SEGAnerds that the numbers ioi posts are either at times guesses, based on leaked NPD numbers and/or the number has been revised based on Famitsu, Chart Track and NPD numbers.

@Gamerchoice
Your crazy Condemned 2 rocked my socks. Anyways I was hoping Viking would hit a million, its barely selling anymore. Right now its at about 500k.
@Anonymous
Nobody has 100% accurate numbers. NPD only uses data from certain selected retailers and then estimates what the sales are likely to be. The publishers themselves only know how many copies they shipped.

Anyways it well known that Vgchartz has a knack for under tracking Sega games, the Euro sales for the DS version of SST wasn’t even being tracked at all untill recently.

What it needed were better controls and more characters. The controls were strange - why map everything to two buttons? Seems kind of silly. Character wise, there were too many ‘recent’ characters and not enough throwback characters.

That being said, as soon as I bought it I played it non-stop until I get AAA 100%.

Sega needs to make a smash brothers esque game with all their IP. Or, make a Wii smash brothers game called Nintendo vs. Sega or something like that. THAT would sell pretty quickly, I think.

@Everyone: Fine, keep linking to a widely disliked and always inaccurate website. Don’t worry about trying to be a credible website as you already post rumors from anywhere they come from.

@psv: You’re an idiot. Virtua Tennis, Virtua Tennis 2 and Virtua Tennis 3 all used two buttons. Take a look at the arcade cabs that they run on for proof.

Most of the characters are not exactly “recent”.
NiGHTS: 12 years old
Ulala: 9 years old
Beat: 8 years old
Samba de Amigo: 8 years old

The only really recent characters are AiAi and Shadow. And we shouldn’t complain about his inclusion since he is really popular among kids.

Also, I don’t really yearn for a Sega Smash Bros game. I think people want too much from Sega Superstars Tennis once they compare it to Brawl which is an unfair comparison as Brawl had a much higher budget. This is shown on how average the review scores are for this great game.

Anonymous, we don’t want it to be like Brawl. We want it Fighters Megamix style with the Superstars and Sakura Shinguji.

Rumors are posted as rumors, I clarified that this is VGchartz. I don’t know what the huge problem is here. The only person that has a problem is you.

@anon

I’m not particularly concerned what the arcade cabinets used. First, it wasn’t released in the arcade; fairly ridiculous observation regardless. Second, when every console this was released on has more than two buttons, there’s absolutely no reason to require combo presses. It’s pointless and smacks of laziness. The Wii nunchuck + wiimote controls were perfectly done, however the minigames require the wiimote-only control setup.

Further: Sega is nearly a 70 year old company. The levels pay tribute to a number of franchises, but the characters do not. Just sixteen characters when the game is based on your own IP? They don’t have to pay for licensing on *anything*! They could’ve easily reintroduced double that number. Why stop with Alex Kidd and Gilius Thunderhead?

Finally: I stand by recent. Nights: JOD, S&tSR, Jet Set Radio Future on the Xbox and Samba is about to be released. So, out of 16, 4 aren’t ‘recent’ and only 2 truly harken back to Sega’s days of success.

As far as I’m concerned, Sega missed an opportunity for an easy reintroduction of a ton of franchises. What’s idiotic about that? Outside of Sega fanatics, this game’s metacritic scores place it at about ‘average’.

Who cares about fucking numbers and scores, its a good game. The end. Why are you going to let people tell you how to feel about a game?

If you can give me 100% accurate sales data from every retailer across the globe including internet sales, I will personally lick your balls. If you fail you have to post nude pictures of yourself on the internet and they have to be taken by me personally. And since you will fail, shall we schedule an appointment? Friday would be good for me.

Why do you guys think the game won’t be a hit in Japan?

@Iisuzu, because it’s not called Dr. Kawashima’s Tennis Training.
