Wind & Water

German gaming magazine “Retro” is sporting a new demo for upcoming Dreamcast game, Wind & Water: Puzzle Battles. Ok it’s not one of the biggest gaming magazines out there, but it’s still on the front of a magazine, and that’s something.

The game is being developed by Yuan Works and published by RedSpotGames - famed for publishing the scrolling shooter, Last Hope on the Dreamcast a couple of years ago. Wind & Water was originally announced for both the Dreamcast and GP2X, but was released first, as a retail game, on the GP2X.

Wind & Water is a puzzle-battle game, where you to rotate tiles representing the elements of wood, earth, metal, and fire; into a diamond shape of 4 or more matching blocks. There are also void and wind blocks which are used as special blocks with abilities to pull off special clears. In other difficulty settings they may appear as simply another element with no special capabilities.

The goal of the game is to keep the flow of blocks coming in order to prevent, or lower the press which will limit the amount of space you have to clear blocks unless you are able to clear them fast enough.

The demo version is said to have several playable missions and about 5 hours worth of gameplay - which sounds like rather a lot for a demo game… but the full game is said to offer over 30 hours of gameplay, in the story mode alone!

The full game features:

To be honest I’m not a massive fan of puzzle games, but I am interested in this one. The Story Mode and mini games sound pretty interesting to me. I reckon I might just try and get the full game once it’s released, hopefully get you a review for a new Dreamcast game in 2008 ;)

Naturally the magazine is in German, and only for sale in German stores. However, anyone from overseas can order the magazine from their website.

For more information on the full game, check the official website, here.

@Taco Lord - I’m often seeing the Dreamcast Dev Kit for sale on eBay and some other random sites.
-Sometimes they aren’t too bad value.

The official dev kit isn’t officially released despite Dream-Alive’s(C) best effeorts.

However head over to http://www.dcemulation.org, we have some nice dev kits which are regularly updated.

3 here, though I only use the SEGA Sports Edition one. Black is the color of cool.

This game sounds really fun for a puzzle game. A try, I shall give it.

1 PAL broken, 1 PAL functionally, 1 NTSC region free functionally and one portable black Treamcast.

I’m not buying this game, Last Hope was one of the worst games I have ever purchased… at least I’m not buying it before “trying” it…

Yes, people still do have Dreamcast systems. In fact, Dreamcast gained a little more popularity earlier this year. There are two Dreamcasts in my house, and I hope to get a Treamcast soon.

Oh, and the PSP is kind of like a Dreamcast, so I have three Dreamcast systems in the house.

Are you kidding? My Dreamcast will never leave my side! And my Dreamcast won’t leave my Saturn’s side, and my Saturn won’t leave my Genesis/CD/32X’s side, and my Genesis/CD/32X won’t leave my, Master System’s side…

@Gamerschoice.
If/when you get a Treamcast - make sure you get the TFT version.
“Treamcast SE” (I think it’s called) - The Black model.
The screen vastly superior to the original LCD one. (I have both) :o)
