Rumour: Sonic Unleashed receives name change?

According to reports, from TheSonicStadium forums, it could be that Sonic Unleashed might be undergoing a name change.
The new name? “Sonic World Adventure.”
Of course, we are treating this as a rumour, until Sega says otherwise, but there is some strong evidence to suggest that it could be true.
Prima, who make official guide books for many popular games, has a guide book listed for Sonic World Adventure, and the guide book states it’s for the Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3, Wii and XBox 360 - which just so happens to be the consoles which Sonic Unleashed has been announced for!
The mysterious guide book is due to be released this November, which is around the same time as the game is due to be released, and it will cost $19.99. This is not just according to one site, but several, as it is shown on PrimaGames, Amazon and Random House (book publishers).
Now it could be that Prima has made a screw up. But really it sound like quite a strange mix up with names, as “Unleashed” and “World Adventure” are both very different.
Right now this possible name change has cause a bit of a rift amongst our forums members. I personally hate the new name, to be me “Unleashed” helps emphasise Sonic’s transformation into a Werewolf, plus it’s short, snappy and gives a bit of impact in the name.

NO! NO! I hope they don’t change the name I just started to like it to. Also why would they wait this long to do this, instead of doing it more in the beginning?

Sonic World Adventure. I thought the original Unleashed name was kind of hokey to begin with, but this is the most generic name-rip-off of a very popular Super Nintendo platformer starring a fat plumber I’ve ever seen. What’s next? Sonic 64? Tails’ Mansion? Sonic kaRt? Super Sonic Galaxy?
Hmm. I’d buy every one of those. But regardless I think SEGA could have done more to give the title a fitting name, should this rumor prove itself true.

Meh. I remember complaining about the name being ‘Unleashed,’ and a lot of people complaining with me. If it’s true, it won’t matter in the long run. :/
But, nestled beside my disinterest, I can’t help but feel intrigued by this name change. I wonder how having ‘Adventure’ in the title (without blatantly changing the name to “Sonic Adventure 3″) will affect sales.

at least there is going to be a new game with the words “Sonic” and “Adventure” in the title.

its probably to grab all the Sonic Adventure fans, kinda like “Sonic Rush Adventure”, so we sit at “sonic World Adventure” :\
personally i like the sound of ‘Unleashed’ even if it is cliche, but they must have their reasons.

They should call it Mega Sonic Adventure. MSA for short. It would also stand for Mario Sucks Ass.

T’s right. Remember that the game focuses on various zones of the world. So basicly it’s Sonic Adventure World Tour or something. So Sonic World Adventure is a pretty neat name.

I hope this means they dropped all the wolf nonsense.
Sonic World Adventure stands for (now)… Sonic being the playable character, world as in the world blew up and you have to go around it, and adventure as in theres a overworld like the first adventure and sonic rush adventure?

I hope ‘adventure’ doesn’t mean Big the Cat though

If they dropped the Werewolf thing I’d be happy to call this Sonic World Adventure. Heck I would call it Super Paper Sonic’s Adventure Book World if they dropped the Werewolf thing.
-I don’t think the Werewolf thing is a terrible idea. But I don’t think it fits in with a Sonic game.
I think Sega should make a new IP with the whole Werewolf idea.
Just my 2 Cents.
-@ Crackdude. What?! Big the Cat IS Sonic Adventure!! ;o)

Sonic as a Werewolf is shit in my opinion yet the title ‘Sonic Unleashed’ worked with it. The title ‘Sonic World Adventure’ sounds corny, over-used and generic yet if it meant they would drop the whole Werewolf thing i would gladly take the new title. However, they won’t drop the Werewolf thing therefore on both accounts here i’m losing.
So fuck it. Fuck it all.

If they change it to Sonic World Adventure. It’ll trick people into thinking it might be good.
Unleashed is fine.
Actually, in comparison its alot more origonal though it explains the whole werewolf thing too well.
Ya, Unleashed sounds better. World Adventure sounds like some cheesy random name slaped on some sub par third party game.
Still, if sonic didnt turn into a werewolf, then Unleashed woulda been ten times better in my view.

If they really want to stick Adventure in the title, they should simply call it “Sonic Adventure 3″ instead of throwing “World” in the middle of it. If they want to create a new name, them have at least some originality with it. If they want to bring back “Sonic Adventure” then they should simply call it the next in the series. You can’t have it both ways.

Personaly i don’t think it should be in the same series as the other Adventure games. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were quite good and didn’t wreck Sonic in a sense like how this Werewolf thing is doing to his image right now.
I think this game should be a stand alone title that’s not connected to the Adventure series. This whole Werewolf thing is just too extreme no matter how much they dress the story up.

Cmon! Sonic and the Arabian Nights Book of 1000 pages thing… Who tought that was a great idea from the beginning? Noone! And was it not a great game??
Werehog thing could work just as well! It’s a matter of how it is implemented. Hell, it worked in Zelda with Link and he’s gay. Sonic is not gay because Sonic’s his name and speed’s his game!!
I think it’s a creative way of playing sonic. And it’s a lot better than throwing some charatcer named Muscles the Hedgehog.

copypasta for lazyasses that don’t like to click links:
I’m sure you’ve heard the rumour, that we’re changing Sonic Unleashed’s name. Sorry folks. No we’re not.
The mix-up is understandable most certainly, so I’ll explain the base details. The rumour started when a guide appeared on an online store for the game “Sonic World Adventureâ€, keen-eyed Sonic fans spotted this and reported it and so the snowball began. Sadly this is neither a new name nor a new game but infact an old name. You’ve got it the wrong way round fellas!
Unleashed was indeed, at an early developmental stage, going to be called Sonic World Adventure, it even had a WIP logo of sorts that featured on a verrrrry early cut of a promo video for the title. Who knows maybe in some dim and distant future said video will appear, but no - Unleashed Sonic is so Sonic Unleashed it shall be.
So there we have it, the name simply hadn’t been updated yet which is how the mix up all occurred.
If you ask us to comment on a rumour we generally won’t - because 9.5 times out of ten its rubbish. Always take such things with a pinch of salt until we confirm or announce it officially, else you’ll only end up confused and/or disappointed when said rumour doesn’t happen: e.g “NiGHTS 3 is going to exclusively be announced at SEGA Gamers Day†anyone?
So in the words of a notorious band who had dealings with Sonic way back when, the irrepressable Right Said Fred - “There’s no truth, in the rumour - that’s all I wanna say.â€
AAUK
PS: Contrary to several sources the word “World†is not the sole gaming property of Mr. Plumber for Tikal’s sake… :)
