Sega learning from mistakes?

Sega has admitted to making some mistakes when it came to releasing Sega Rally for the Xbox 360 and PS3 (oh and PSP) last year, according to a recent interview with MCV and Managing Director of Sega UK, Alan Pritchard.
While the game won the critical acclaim of many reviewers, and won awards, it failed to hit home with the general consumers. However releasing a game around the same time as Halo 3 and FIFA, is pretty stupid for any game company. Quite frankly, I don’t think Sega has much of an excuse there, and they should have realised it was a bad time to revive one of their greatest franchises.
But hopefully Sega has been learning, as Alan adds;
“Sega Rally reviewed well and won a BAFTA but didn’t resonate with customers.
“But now we’re really starting to get going on 360 and PS3. Vikings and Condemned 2 have done well, Iron Man is performing in line with expectations.
“There is much more to come on those formats, when arguably we had under-performed a little as a next-gen publisher until now.”
So hopefully we will be getting some good stuff coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3, in the not too distant future from our favourite gaming company.

As Sega fans everywhere will recognize, it’s almost guaranteed they won’t learn. Sega CD? 32X? Saturn? Dreamcast? They’ve been doing a pretty lousy job of promoting most of their IP for over a decade now.
That’s not to say I won’t stop giving them my money… bwahaha *sob*

Please don’t another mistake
especially when you’re going to
release Shenmue in this gen,
I want to see big sales for
Shenmue Next Gen or what
ever you’re going to call
Ryo’s adventure this time.
I guess that two mistakes might
happen for Shenmue this time!
1-Bad Timimg
2-The lack of previous chapters
So, here are two suggestions:
1-Release Shenmue when there are
no other Action RPGs on the market.
(at least when Final Fantasy-like
and GTA-like titles are not around)
2-Provide the complete story line
on each console!
For example,
On 360/PS3 you can release something like Valve’s The Orange Box in if you’re not going to enhance Shenmue I and II graphics!, On Wii you MUST give us a Wii-make of Shenmue I and II, then you can also release a complete pack including Shenmue I-II Wii+Shenmue III.
^Special Offers like this can bring
more sales even if no body knows
what’s Shenmue!
Note: If you’re a bit lazy (also worry about the money), at least re-release
Shenmue II X (preferably a version without any glitch!) on Xbox LIVE Xbox Originals, and don’t forget to offer Shenmue I The Movie, Gamer Pics and Themes as a free download for those who download Shenmue II X.

For most companies that have the same problem, they don’t listen to the consumer.
When people talk about rumors for something awesome, the companies need to listen to what we like and desire out of games.
Many companies that produce games that people want, they pay attention and understand what the consumer wants.
A good example is with Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Fans for the older games want something consistant but different at the same time. But to revolve around something that is even further away from that genre, it just slaps the fans in the face.
And with sega, they need to dissolve Sammy and bring on a new era with what we love most and what we love about it. Especially if it’s Shenmue III, Phantasy Star, Sonic, House of the Dead, Skies of Arcadia, Space Harrier, After Burner, Shining Force, Shinobi, Space Channel 5, Ristar, Kid Chamelion, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Panzar Dragon, Comic Zone, Vectorman, Ecco the Dolphin, and all the other ones we know and love!

I hope someday Sega has a flash of inspiration that reveals where it really went wrong on Sonic the Hedgehog, to say nothing of the console race.

SEGA has done some big mistakes and certainly, they will not stop here.
On the other hand, the recent deal with Platinum Games, seems to be the best thing they did in 6/7 years.
We should give SEGA some credit for trying to make some new Core games despite all the flood of casual games we are seeing today.
Maybe i’m being a fanboy…

What’s the problem crackdude? I played the demo for Iron Man on 360 and my brother is loving the PSP version. Sega did a good job on it and I’m glad that it’s performing according to expectations. Maybe you should play a game before judging it. If you’re not going to, then go be a Nintendo fan or something, but real Sega fans distrust reviewers and play the games for themselves.
For example, I could have believed the reviews for Sega Superstars Tennis or Viking: Battle for Asgard. I’m so glad that I didn’t because I haven’t been as glued to a game in years as I have been to Viking, and Sega Superstars Tennis is fantastic fun all around.

Thank god Cude_b3 doesnt run a blog other wise you’d never hear straight news. Just HIS version of the news.
Anyway on topic, at least they have noted that they have a problem… But will they follow up on that or is it all talk… I hope Ironman and Hulk flop hard, they are bound to be crap games and I don’t WANT Sega going the route of shitty movie games.
I’m glad that games are selling but can’t they make GOOD games that sell?

(Please note that this comment was originally going to be posted right after psv’s but I kept getting an error that I couldn’t post. So read this response as if I hadn’t yet seen any posts but psv’s yet.)
I think SEGA is learning psv. You have to realize that there is a lot of new management that have replaced those that were responsible for the hardware and other failures of old. SEGA went 3rd party in 2001, a lot has changed since then and SEGA seems to be on the right track to get into the top 5 third party publishers.
As for the article, if SEGA knew that Sega Rally performed poorly because of when it was released and not because of the actual content then why did they shut down Sega Racing Studio? It was probably a demand by the higher ups at SegaSammy but it’s such a shame. I pray that at least Sega Rally 3 does better.

I think Sega should be careful when listening to fans. There are fans that are ‘fucking retards’, they don’t understand the logic.
Shenmue fans are one of them and the worst offenders are Sonic fans. Though I agree with 45 percent of what Shenmue fans suggest. I don’t suggest just releasing 3!
Sonic fans don’t agree with each other and 95 percent of them are gay furries that would love to see Tails and Sonic make out. This sorta of stuff is the cancer that is killing Sonic. Sonic Team should ignore fans and just go back to basics, aka Sonic 2 (On Genesis)/ Sonic Adventure (on Dreamcast)
combine those two = perfection, if the developed right of course :/ .

Sammy would be no problem if they had a working model, Satomi has done well at SEGA of Japan (Getting the deals for Clover and Chunsoft and allowing games like Valkyrie to be made) now I feel it’s bout time he returns to his former post and sorts Sammy out correctly this time.
