Finally an affordable hand held Dreamcast right on your PSP?

[Update: A lot of people think that the video is a fake. In all honesty I'm not sure - it certainly had me convinced. Hopefully the guy will put up some more videos, and I shall try to do some digging in the mean time. If it's a fake then I shall hold up my hands and say "Yeah you got me, well done." But if it's real then... "Woohoo!"]
We’ve seen a few hand held Dreamcasts being made over the last few years, one we reported on quite recently.
The biggest problems with these hand helds is that you either need to be a technical/electronics wizard, or have a healthy cash flow - and buy it off those that are wizards. But it seems now you won’t need to possess much more than the Internet (which, if you are reading this, you must have already), and a PSP!
I knew that the emulation and homebrew scene has been steadily growing over the past few years, but this is the first time I have actually seen a PSP running Dreamcast games. And to be honest, I’m pretty damn excited by the concept! As you can clearly see, the video shows the PSP running Sonic Adventure 2, and it looks pretty much perfect in game play.
Unfortunately I’m not totally sure on all the information here. All that I can really tell you is that it is running on the “AutoBrew” emulation software - which supports several retro consoles, including; Ps1, N64 and (of course) Dreamcast.
Hopefully we can find some more information on this for you guys soon.

It’s fake for sure, either he put a video or he is streaming from another media, the most important is HE IS NOT PLAYING, and I know he doesn’t show the buttons but the PSP barely moves during all the action…

The only way it could be even remotely possible is if he managed to decompile all 900+ MB of SA2 and ported and modified each line of code directly into a PSP-SDK compiler. Even then, I can almost guarantee there’d be a thousand bugs and it wouldn’t run anywhere near 60fps on the first go.
Dreamcast emulation just isn’t going to happen on this generation of handhelds. Same with the Saturn (one mediocre processor emulating 8? Good luck…).

even emulating Saturn games on the PSP

As much as I wish this were true, there is no way. The PSP technically has higher specs than the Dreamcast, but actually emulating the core SYSTEM and running games on it; I dare say it’s impossible. It would need to be much more powerful. This “Auto brew” is nothing more than a video player.
I really can’t wait for the next generation of handhelds though, I can’t wait to play portable Saturn games. It probably wont be until the generation after that to see playable Dreamcast games on a handheld. Skies of Arcadia Portable!

I don’t recall the PSP being as powerful as a DC, not to mention not even the PS2 can’t even run a DC game due to its lack of VRAM without some serious reprogramming of the game code. Needless to say, I doubt this is real.

I think it’s possible, with a low resoultion, downed graphic, and resized roms, yeah. I also heard the release is suppose to be next year. It’s running only on 3.95 custom firmware with Pataon demo right now. I wonder though is Autobrew different than Homebrew?

I’m not going to comment on the video being real or fake because I can easily edit a video to make it look like I’m playing SA2 on a CELL PHONE.But I believe that dc on psp is possible. First of all, take a good look at the dc controller. Now look at the psp and tell me how different the controls are. I don’t think button mapping will be a problem. Second, look at the hardware on each system (or look it up on wikipedia). The biggest problem, I think, would be the VRam. However, I still believe it can be done if hard work is applied.

People said the Sega Saturn on PSP won’t happen, it did! People said N64 on PSP won’t happen, it did. Now people say Dreamcast won’t happen. We don’t even know the person doing this, who are we to judge. If it not real, oh well, if it is. A lot of people will feel like complete idiots!
