Samba de Amigo Wii: first trailer
Posted by Hudson. Filed under News.
IGN got their paws on a trailer for the new Samba de Amigo Wii game, and, well, it’s Samba de Amigo! On the Wii!
At times like these I think a simple description of the events that transpire within is due:
A family, bored of board games (I know!) have their humdrum afternoon mercifully interrupted when the doorbell rings. They open the door to a magical monkey holding maracas, who then whisks them back to their TV like a good American family where they make complete asses of themselves playing Samba de Amigo with newly confirmed Mii integration.
I know it sounds snarky, but truth be told it’s a pretty accurate depiction of how people looked playing the original on the Dreamcast. I guess it only took us, what, nine years to reach this point again?

I thought this trailer was hilarious, and that wasn’t a monkey, it was a chimpanzee.

This is the one they showed at Sega Gamers Day. I wrote a ‘impression on it’ here:
http://www.seganerds.com/2008/05/16/sgd08-our-arrival/
“One of the most comical parts of the video was a sort of TV spot for Samba de Amigo. It showed a bored family playing a board game. I can relate, because board games are boring and made for homeless people who can’t afford video games. They get a knock at the door, so they go and open it. Boom, there’s a monkey with maracas in his hands. He walks in and the family starts to play Samba de Amigo on the Wii. They obviously look very thrilled. It was cheesy, but it reminded me of old Sega ads from the ’90s. Sure, the ad was sorta like the “Wii would like to play†ads from Nintendo, but 10 times better since monkeys rock. On a scale from 1 to 10, monkeys rank in at 11. Let’s hope the ad gets a TV run!”
CLASSIC SEGA! I love it!

Who just LETS a crazy monkey into their house!?
Actually, I guess if a monkey did come and ring my doorbell and I open it and it shakes some maracas at me… Well I’d probably invite it in for a cup of tea out of shock.

Now THIS is the Sega I know and love. The game’s graphics are quite a jump ahead of the DC version, and while I own every previous version of the game, I’ve never had a 2nd set of maracas to play 2 player on it. Jumping on this day one.

Same here. I’ve got the first one and Ver. 2000, but the promise of 2 player samba’s what’s got it on my “to buy” list

You are allowed to use the two wiimotes or wiimote and nunchuck set up.
If you use the Wiimote/Nunchuck set up the game knows thats what you are using and doesn’t force you extend your hands so much doing poses because you have a wire and you can’t!
I hope that clears it up.

yeah.. 2 player samba was pretty sweet, but no one could really beat me :) too bad the maracas were, like, super expensive. OMG! and i hated setting them up and putting them away. I can’t wait for the easy set and take down of this version. and yeah.. i got both vers. too
i’d say samba is my best rhythm game, i was pretty awesome
