Simon Jeffery talks about Platinum Games with Gamespot
Have some questions about the Platinum Games deal? Simon Jeffery has got you covered. Here are the important highlights of the interview:
- The Sega contract gives Platinum Games total freedom. They get to make the game how they want it, the trailers, and all that stuff. While Sega tries to give them advice on how best to market the games.
- Platinum Games is exclusive to Sega for the time being. Meaning they can’t go make games with other publishers.
- The new games are owned by Sega.
- Deal is long term. This is just the first step.
- These games are meant to become franchises.

I hope these guys stay exclusive to Sega for a very long time, if not… FOREVER!

good deal from Sega …. but “While Sega tries to give them advice on how best to market the games.” … coming from Sega this is funny … even though they got better lately.

They did get a new marketing guy that got shitty Strobes game to sell a million. If he can get that pile of shit to hit a million, he should be able to get these games to become hits.

While this is great news, it puzzles me that Sega should be so interested in preserving the talent at Clover after disbanding so many of its own incredible in-house studios (Team Andromeda) and severing ties with others (Camelot).
Sega used to have as many (if not more) great franchises as Nintendo, and then they basically pissed them all away.
Oh well. Infinite Line could be kinda neat I guess.

Hum Camelot wanted to leave SEGA, so SEGA sold them back their stocks. Team Andromeda, I don’t know what happened with that team. Though most of the studio formed SMILEBIT that was still with SEGA.
Its not like SEGA didn’t want them.

Team Andromida /pretty much/ just changed their name to Smilebit. They are still in Sega today.
Anyway, your talking YEARS back, Sega has changed a lot since then.
They STILL have more series then Nintendo, they just don’t pump them out as often so arent as popular.

“These guys are platform-agnostic. Bayonetta’s on the next-gen platforms, Madworld’s on the Wii..”
I wish more people though of the Wii as a next-gen system. Well actually the correct term is current-gen.
