Top Ten Friday: Sega Villains

[Editors’ note: Every Friday we’ll give you a top 10 list, breaking down some of the very best and worst aspects of Sega and its games and consoles.]
Everyone wants to be a villain in games, but not all villains are the as good as others. Some are misunderstood and some are straight out evil. Today I’ll try to list Sega’s top ten best villains in a video game.
Let me note that this is only my opinion, if you would like the share your favorites, than add them as a comment. Remember to tune in every Friday for a new top 10.
Lets start the list after the jump.

Ramirez was not the most original bad guy in a RPG, playing the man that betrays Fina in Skies of Arcadia. They are both “Silver people, and he has pledged his loyalty to Galcian. This character made the list for being a pretty fun boss fight in a really great game.

Did you know he has a mansion? Well, if you ever played any of The House of the Dead games, you would know that he’s responsible for the awesome events that happened in the game. He is not a bad guy, he is a misunderstood artist!

Death Adder wore a awesome helmet that would make Pyramid Head jealous. Remember how he always used magic? Why did he have so much magic? You know how many dwarfs I kicked? Also, Death Adder gets bonus points for having one of the coolest names around.

The loyal servant of Wizeman and the person that imprisoned NiGHTS. I like the whole concept of NiGHTS being a dream and Reala being the nightmare. He was a fitting villain for a very good game.

If you’ve played any Phantasy Star game, you know all about Dark Falz. This guy has fucked up my shit many times, especially in Phantay Star Online. Having someone rush you, and then Dark Falz killing you right before he is killed is annoying … very, very annoying. I want my XP.

Craymen – the cold-blooded brother and woman kidnapper extraordinaire from Panzer Dragoon Saga. Yes, I said brother. He isn’t afraid of disposing of people, plus look at his hair! When I’m old, I hope I can have cool hair like Craymen.

Majima was mentally screwed up, and anyone who played Yakuza could tell you that. Though, he was still a very cool character. I mean, who could sport a yellow Hawaiian shirt? Not me, thats for sure. To top it all off, he has an eye patch … AN EYE PATCH!

Besides looking cool, Dural is a bad mother. Literally, as in she is the mother of Kage in the Virtua Fighter series. She uses everyone’s best moves, not to mention, she had an underwater level. That’s pretty awesome. She’s also a robot with a rocking body. Not that I would ever admit it to Kage!

Sure, not all Sonic games are good, but something that hasn’t let me down throughout the series is good ol’ Robotnik. He’s remained such a cool character, even through his subtle changes. I even like his voice actor in all the games. Sure, I’m in disagreement of changing his name or calling him Eggman, but besides this little issue, he is one bad dude. Plus, he pisses off PETA, and everyone hates PETA.

:: cue Shenmue soundtrack :: Lan Di is a heartless man, or that’s what Ryo would have you believe. I don’t blame him, though – the guy killed his father right in front of him. What makes him number one? Well, the fact that we never got our revenge, and for eight years now, Lan Di has become Sega’s greatest villain .

Aww. What about that crazy cop from Jet Set? He was NUTS!! You do a bit of painting and he brings armies after you! XD
But still, cool list. We all kinda expected Lan Di to be numero uno on that one.

Awesome list, can’t really argue with that (expect perhaps the order here and there).

Top 10 lists : (
Also it feels odd to see this list and not know who half of them are. You did a poor job.

You realize that every villain came from some of Sega’s most popular games ever, right? Just because you don’t recognize most of these villains, doesn’t mean they aren’t known to the majority of Sega Nerds.

Kogen - Seriously?
So you’ve never played;
Skies of Arcadia
House of the Dead
Golden Axe
NiGHTS
Phantasy Star (any of them)
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Yakuza
Virtua Fighter
Sonic (Well I assume you do know Robotnik)
Shenmue?
Those were all the main badguys in those games. To have never heard of them, you must not have played those games for more than 10minutes (if at all)

Dark Falz should have been at least #3. And Robotnik obviously gets at least #2.
What about Ethan Waber?

nice list. Lan Di is definitely deserving of the top spot. In Dark Falz news, he’s about to make his reappearance in PSU, probably later today when we break 100 million!

Actually, Galcian, storywise, was a more ruthless man of a villain, compared to his student “Ramirez”

Well Kogen, or you are very young or you don’t deserve to be called a sega nerd :P
Craymen was not a bad guy, if you forget that he blew up half the population in a decadent civilization and that he wanted to control the most destructive power ever created… ok he was a real MF, but Azel convinced me the other way -.-

Well Dr. Curien is not good at all and you rarely even see him. I mostly played House of the Dead 3, and his face was never even shown. He seems generic, anyway, why not include that electric guy instead?
I never beat a Phantasy Star game, so I do not know if Dark Falz is in a lot of the games and such.
A lot of the others are from single games and were just not very good(The Yakuza one, the Skies of Arcadia queer, and the Panzer guy). They are not well known or many games and I think that makes them poor choices.
Where is Mr. X? He is popular and it lots of games. Where is the Shinobi villian with the long hair? Again, well known and in plenty of games. What about Opa-opa’s father? Yet again, in several games. And I could keep naming more villians in great franchises who were seen a lot rather than one-shot villains we will never see again.
The worse part about it is Lan Di being #1. Honestly, what is good about him? You rarely even do anything with him. He should be around the bottom.

Opa-Opa’s father isn’t a villian. At all.
Dr. Eggman should have been 1. A bit of a deuce, but a memorable deuce. Agree with Kogen, a villian from Shinobi or Streets of Rage would have been nice.
I disagree with Number 8, also.
Dr. SEGA Monkey

But wait a minute, where’s SEGA Commercial Saturdays?

I’ll have to agree with Kogen on this one, no Mr. X and that guy with the wig from Shinobi makes me a sad panda.
