Get exclusive Red Hulk by buying game from Gamestop

Sega just shot me an email detailing a new promotion it has with game retail giant Gamestop - if you buy the Xbox 360 version of The Incredible Hulk from the store, you’ll get immediate access to Hellboy Red Hulk.

What makes this extra important? Apparently, Sega’s not including the Red Hulk in any other version of the game or in any Xbox 360 game sold outside of Gamestop. So literally the only way to access the red-tinted Hulk is to give your money to Gamestop.

For awhile now, Sega.com and Gamestop have had a marketing agreement where Sega tells its readers to buy or pre-order games exclusively at Gamestop. However, this is the first time I can recall where you get additional content, although it’s just a recolored Hulk in this case. We’re not sure what to think of this practice of basically forcing those players who want everything they can get from their $60 purchase to go to a retailer they may not have chosen in the first place.

    I’m kind of pissed off.

In some ways it’s cool to have these special versions of games out there - for collectors or the big fans.

BUT as far as I’m aware Gamestop is only in the US - does this mean that only US gamers will get treated to this extra character? Or will Sega setup deals with other stores across the world?

    Kind of annoying.

Yeah, that’s a good point. Hopefully, they’ll sign a deal with GAME or some other UK-based retailer to bring the Red Hulk to you guys.

This is a really weird marketing strategy. I have a couple of Gamestops here in the Frozen North, but it seems hard to believe that games bought elsewhere would be physically different. Why go through all that trouble? Why not throw in a poster or a discount or something?

Gamestop is the biggest video game retailer in existance, as far as I am aware. This includes EB Games, as they own them. And since The Hulk is only popular in America, it makes sense.

Also it is just a red colour - no big deal. If they wanted to be “kind”, they would release it as a “downloadable” on XBL for people with the normal game who want it.

Is it really just the colour that’s unique?

Because the picture makes him look really badass - I was wondering if maybe he was like stronger or something.

    I hope this doesn’t become a pattern.

I’m probably moving soon to an area with no Gamestops so if they pull this shit with Sonic or something I will be PISSED.

Well, you should be able to buy it from their website and have it shipped to you. You can probably still get it that way.

Graham, theres no way this is anything other than just a color swap, don’t worry about it.
