Another Sega title to be remade?
After the success of REZ on XBLA, and the fairly decent sales of House of the Dead on the Wii, it would be inevitable that Sega should try and bring a few more of their old IPs to modern systems. According to Siliconera, the next potential game on the list is another Dreamcast title, Cosmic Smash. It is said that Sega has recently trademarked the name Cosmic Smash in America.
However, while most of the games they have remade or re-released, like Sega Bass Fishing, NiGHTS or the Sonic games on the Virtual Console and XBLA have all been considered ‘classics’ or ‘fan favourites’ - Cosmic Smash would be considered more of a mystery to many gamers be they Sega Nerds or otherwise.
After watching the above video, I can vaguely recall reading about this game in an old Dreamcast magazine, but the game was only ever released in the arcades and on the Dreamcast in Japan, where it didn’t do too well apparently. So it’s safe to say that not many people will have played it and possibly even fewer will have even heard of it!
The next question will be as to which system Sega will be putting it on? And will it be a remake or a sequel?
I can see this game working on the Wii, if they get the controls working right. Or if it’s a re-release, perhaps Sega will follow the lead of REZ, and put it on XBLA in it’s original form?

Nope, never seen that game before. Looks like a cross between Rez and Virtua Tennis. Could be fun but it doesn’t really appeal to me. Plus i’ve had my fair share of Tennis-fun thanks to SST so i’m not particularly excited to see another tennis game any time soon.
I think if sega really wanna bring back old games then they have an amazing catalogue of stuff they could bring back. Burning Rangers and Streets of Rage suddenly spring to mind.

In many ways I think it will be better/safer for Sega to bring back some titles that aren’t so well known, even among Sega fans.
One big problem with resurrecting old IPs is the chance that they might disappoint, and pretty much ruin the name of old title(s) in the series.
-Like NiGHTS, and Sonic.
I’m a massive fan of Burning Rangers - but while I would like to play more games in that franchise, I am just worried that none will be as brilliant as the original game is.

I have it on the DC and it’s awesome. I’m glad Sega’s bringing this to Live Arcade as it would never be available to us otherwise.
