Sega snags three spots in UK’s top 10

by Chris on May 1st, 2008

Sega has been pretty darn successful as of late in the United Kingdom, and it doesn’t appear that its momentum is slowing down by very much as proven by this week’s top 10 software chart. Sega was able to grab the third, sixth and ninth spot in this week’s charts, having the most titles of any publisher after Nintendo.

  1. Wii Fit
  2. Mario Kart
  3. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)
  4. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
  5. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training
  6. Sega Superstars Tennis
  7. Game Party
  8. PES 2008: Pro Evolution Soccer
  9. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)
  10. Wii Play

We’re still amazed at how well Mario & Sonic continues to sell. It seems that this game just won’t die, and we expect it to stay in the top 10 for awhile due to all the Beijing Olympic buzz. It’s also nice to see Sega Superstars Tennis selling well, especially since it hasn’t sold nearly as well in North America.

It has sold 57k for Wii and 57k for Wii last week in Europe, very impressive. SST (Wii Version) sold 37k, good numbers too.

I thought you had made a mistake for a second was about to reply - “Isn’t this just the Nintendo top 10 or something?”

But then I noticed Gran Turismo in there and realised it must be the All Platforms chart.

I don’t know what Game Party is (never heard of it!) But every game there, apart from GT5 Prologue, is on a Nintendo system!

Well still great to see Sega still selling well in the UK. Makes me proud to be British (well something needs to)!

You forgot to mention that it beat Mario Galaxy in total sales in Europe.

Game Party and Wii Play are just a collection of minigames. Fun party stuff.

I picked up SST after learning it was $20 (from here, actually) and I have to wonder, having put an hour or so into it, why it hasn’t sold better. This game is fantastic, and at least on the Wii is far and beyond better than Wiisports Tennis.

Hopefully Sega sees the UK sales and decides to do a Sega Superstars Soccer. I’d love to have a ‘Team Streets of Rage’ against ‘Team Sonic’ and what-have-you.

From what I heard, the Wii version of SEGA Superstar Tennis sold at least 300K. Not too shabby.

I love how Europe, especially the UK, show Sega more love than any other region. If anyone here hasn’t yet played the DS version of Mario and Sonic, it’s really good. I enjoyed it more than the Wii version. Sega Superstars Tennis is good too, but I like it better on Xbox 360, so I bought it on that. But the Wii version wasn’t bad. Has anyone played the DS version of SST?

I have, its not that great. The ‘power moves’ are all really lame. Its not like the console versions. Just very bare bones and lazy it seemed.
