Jackie Chan a Sega fan?
If anyone knows me, they will know that two of my greatest loves of all time are the almighty Jackie Chan (been a fan for some 18 years now) and the Dreamcast (which everyone loves really).
Well Siliconera has done a little mention of Jackie Chan’s latest screen venture, The Forbidden Kingdom, co-starring Jet Li, Yifei Liu… and the Sega Dreamcast.
Well we say “co-stars” the Dreamcast, but from the sounds of it, if you blink you’ll probably miss this cameo appearance from our beloved 128-bit system.
In the first five minutes of the movie, after Jason wakes up from his dream, you can see a Dreamcast on the left hand corner of the screen underneath his TV.
Apparently the movie contains several video game references, including one for the Xbox 360 - which is quite shocking to see an Xbox in an Asian movie. But the Dreamcast is no doubt something that will give all Sega Nerds a little flutter of joy in their hearts when they see the movie (of course you will all see the movie - it’s Jackie Chan!).
Anyone who is a big enough Jackie Chan fan (like myself) will realise that this is not the first time a Sega console has made an appearance in one of his movies. In Rumble in the Bronx master Chan gives his Game Gear to a disabled school boy (who is the main girls younger brother) and in Police Story 3: SuperCopyou see a drug lord playing on the Megadrive, and makes Jackie wait until he finishes his game. Great stuff.
Anyway, good to see the Dreamcast appearing as a pop-culture reference in a movie still today. I’ll let all the slightly more obsessed Sega fanboys make assumptions as to whether this is actually a way for Sega to market the Dreamcast, ready for a spectacular re-launch ;)

I saw it. It actually had a pretty fair amount of screen time, so it was hard to miss.
Cool movie, by the way.

Yeah, it was pretty hard to miss actually (for someone that loves Dreamcast, your eyes will just be magnetized to its wonderful white surface). They also mention Virtua Fighter 2 at one point.
