Sega mobile announces a bunch of games
Posted by George. Filed under George, News, North America, Sonic.
It announced that they will be releasing nine or so games to cellular phones. The announced mobile line up so far is
- SEGA Columnsâ„¢ Deluxe
- Beijing 2008 – The Official Mobile Phone Game of the Olympic Games™
- Sonic at the Olympic Gamesâ„¢
- Samba de Amigoâ„¢
- Sonic Spinballâ„¢
- Medieval: Total Warâ„¢
- Zaxxonâ„¢
- Sonic The Hedgehog 2â„¢
- Crazy Taxiâ„¢
I do think some of the titles announced don’t suit mobile phones (well, I don’t think any games do). But I mean, a RTS on your phone? Plus you can’t play Samba without maracas or some sort of motion sensor device. Thats absurd!

I should point out that mobile phone games in Japan are far more advanced than other countries.
At TGS there were several booths showing off phone games - including some from Sega.
And they would use the phone’s camera to detect movement and motion - so some games you would literally stand there and move and the game would react.
They had a sports game which I tried out - and you had to run on the spot in front of the phone - and the guy in the game would run at a similar speed to you. It was quite cool - if you slowed down, so did your character.
I would imagine that some games - Like Samba were originally designed for this feature… I just hope it works out like that.
