Sega Nerdcast 16: We Are Not Alone
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, G, James. Tagged with Sega Nerdcast.
I’m baaaaaaaack! After having to ride the bench last week due to my bratty newborns (just kidding, I love the kiddos), I’m back in action.
This week’s Nerdcast covers all the exciting Sega news that took place throughout the week, including Sega’s official announcement for Sonic Unleashed. We also talk about what we’ve been playing this week and even touch on a rather disturbing topic during the “It Came From the Forums” segment. Oh yeah, we also reveal who won the super grand prize of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. But you’ll have to listen to find out who the winner is!

I apologize for the seriousness of my reply in the “It Came From the Forums” conversation. What a bore I am, eh?

It’s always a curious subject. Out of place in the video game context, but still interesting.
Minor, almost pointless nitpick: It’s also a real suprise for me, that almost 10 years later, the name Robotnik is still being pronounced actively.
After ten years, I no longer feel bothered by name Eggman and it’s gotten to a point where the name “Robotnik” itself now sounds and feels very awkward, especially the way you guys say it.
The name at this point, kinda feels like it’s from some obscure sci-fi TV show from the 70’s.
Take this as you will…

Awesome nerdcast guys, great job as usual!
And yes, a lot of Sonic fans seem to be bothered more by the voice of the character then the actual quality of the games, I could never understand why…

I don’t mind Eggman as his name Yusaku. I only used it because the press release used it.

Rather, I used it because that’s what was written in press release synopsis, which was included in the Nerdcast outline.
Many apologies. I’ll stick to the more modern Eggman now when referring to newer Sonic games. : P

And I’ll only call him Eggman when he truly replaces the Easter Bunny as my main supplier of giant egg-shaped treats!

Well Dr. Robotnik is his real name and Eggman is his nickname, so both are correct, Sonic Adventure onwards established that.

Regarding Mario in the arcade,
To clarify, Super Mario Bros. was ported to the arcade as part of Nintendo’s PlayChoice-10 series of games. Each machine typically had 10 NES games to choose from which you could play for a fixed time per credit.
