Sonic Chronicles new screenshots
From one Sonic game to another, Sonic Cult has managed to get its hands on some new screenshots showing off an area in the upcoming Sonic RPG for the Nintendo DS, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. This area is called Blue Ridge, take a look:
As you can see in the screenshots, the name fits the area well, since it is blue and full of ridges… Nice! At the risk of sounding like a weird obsessive Sonic fan, it seems humans make an appearance in this game as NPCs. I’m fine with that as long as there are animal NPCs too, it always bothers me when I’m playing Sonic games and the only intelligent life walking around the city is humans. Where are the other animals?!

This game really isn’t doing anything for me. But you’re not allowed to complain about this because Bioware is making it, Sonic’s okay when it’s a shitty RPG.

I think the Art direction is one of the most appealing parts of the game right now… I like the drawn concept art look.

I’m not liking the art direction so far. It reminds me more of Ren and Stimpy then anything Sonic. The fact that BioWare is making lowers my interest moreso.

I’m a fan of the art direction in general Ryan, it’s just that these screens really aren’t showing it. It looks like a really generic Ice level with an even more generic looking town in it.

It looks excellent to me, I absolutely can’t wait. The art looks really cohesive and attractive to me, I like it.

I think the thing that appeals the most to me about Bioware making the game isn’t the level design, art style, etc… It’s the WRITING. When was the last time any of us played a Sonic game with a semi-competent script?
For the record, I loved the dialogue in Sonic Adventure… Not because it was good, but because it was so… SO bad.

I guess that’s why I don’t like it. My favourite Sonic games have no “writing” other than press start and some options.
