iPhone gets a Genesis emulator

The iPhone just never ceases to amaze us. After Sega ported an impressive version of Super Monkey Ball just recently, word comes around that a Genesis emulator aptly named genesis4iphone is about to be released by a homebrew developer by the name of ZodTTD.
This video showcases the second version of the beta, and ZodTTD promises a public release by the end of the week. Of course, the iPhone has no buttons, so players will use a virtual Genesis controller through the iPhone’s touch screen. Amazingly enough, it seems to work pretty well, even with games that require top-notch button precision as Mortal Kombat.
For the longest time, I’ve hated cell phones because I’ve seen what evil they have done to the poor Koreans. Seriously, cell phones have taken over that entire country! But the iPhone is doing some extremely cool things that are beginning to soften my cold, black heart.
[Thanks for the tip, Mike!]

The official Software development kit and iPhone 3rd party apps won’t be available until June. That means this program is only for hacked iPhones. It would be nice to see something like this, only officially sanctioned by SEGA.

These are more gimmick than actual opportunity for real gaming. I haven’t played this Genesis emulator, but the NES, GBA and PSX emulators for the iPhone are absolutely unplayable solely because of the control mechanism. The touch screen is horrible for these kinds of games and relegates them to the status of being interesting tech demos and little more.

The display is much too small for good gaming. Instead of putting the gamepad on the screen, they should have turned the iPhone 90 degree and then put the buttons on the right and pad on the left side of the screen, potentialy make it transparent (or better just the outline) - genesis games were 4:3 anyways. Would be a good reason to get an iPhone
