Sega’s really happy with Mario & Sonic sales

It’s no secret the success of Mario & Sonic has surprised just about everyone involved in the video game industry. I mean seriously, who would have thought a game about the Olympics would sell five million copies in such a short amount of time?
“I don’t think we believed in our wildest dreams that it would sell 5 million units in just three months,” said Simon Jeffrey, Sega of America president. “The Olympics is still four months off and the hype and excitement that builds to the Olympics should give this game a good boost up this summer.”
That’s actually a really good point and something we haven’t talked much about recently. When the hype for the real Olympics swings into full action, the game will surely see a sizable spike in sales. It’s scary to think that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games could really be one of Sega’s most successful games of all time.
