Sega Joypolis coming to Middle East, North Africa

by Chris on February 20th, 2008

joypolis.jpgThere’s not a whole lot of info here, but apparently, Sega and Emaar Malls recently signed an agreement on several indoor theme parks throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

The theme parks will retain the Sega Joypolis name and will have roller coasters, arcades and other attractions.

The first Sega Joypolis is set to open at the end of the year in the Dubai Mall. Well, with Sega closing quite a few arcades recently, it appears they have all the arcade units they need to stock the new Joypolis parks. How convenient!

Isn’t this news a month old or older?

Where’s ours? The US puts SEGA on the map, and they thank us with Golden Compass? Genesis Does, indeed :’(

SEGA owns the arcade and cafe joint Gameworks, didn’t you know?

Yeah, you go there and have fun with crappy Sammy games and the horrid stink of deep fried food. An “amusement centre” sounds much more fun. Or just a classic arcade.

Anyway, someone had a post about this in the forum before. That’s why I said it’s old.

Arcades are dead in America… Americans wont turn up unless there is promise of horrid stinking deep fried food. Made your bed now you lay in it.

Really its that bad? From all the talk I heard about it, it sounded like SEGA was actually going to be changing them into a actually pretty good joint to hung out/play at.

Gameworks doesn’t have rollercoasters. Advantage: Joypolis. ;)

The Gameworks in Guam literally closed like a few weeks before I got here. I was really excited to visit it and see all the great Sega arcades. :(
