Prototype of Sonic 3

DRX, a long time Sonic fan and member of Sonic Retro forums, has acquired hundreds of Sega prototypes. It is also said to have documentation and other unconfirmed things. He has said that he will release Sonic the Hedgehog prototypes this upcoming Saturday. Stay tuned for that. He hasn’t made any other announcements about releasing anything else.

DRX said that he got a entire years worth of backed up data from Sega of America, from 1993 to 1994. Most of the stuff is the original builds and meant for developers to test.

Those probably aren’t the only copies. But who knows? For example, I heard SEGA lost PD Saga’s source code so who knows what they’re thinking…

I can’t wait to see all of them, mainly the Ecco prototypes.

Interesting. Though I am also surprise that SEGA is letting them have it.

I honestly don’t think SEGA gives a shit about a bunch of old, incomplete, buggy protos. Hell, we’ve been hacking and disassembling Sonic ROMs (yeah, their flagship franchise) for around 10 years now and, oh, btw they DO know about us. I have never received a single C&D from SEGA telling me to take the two prototypes we already have down from S2Beta.com, and Simon Wai never got one while he was running it as SWS2B.

I think I am more curious about how he obtained these prototypes from Sega than the actual prototypes themselves.

He didn’t get them from Sega.

That screenshot has me very interested…

Up until now, it’s only been the Sonic 2 prototypes we’ve had access to, is that right? I’ve seen screens of Sonic 1 prototypes, but very little to do with 3 or S&K…

Sega Uranus: You don’t have the Ecco 2 Beta?
