Interested in seeing the latest Sega classic being remade for the Wii? Well here it is, Samba De Amigo for the Wii. The video was taken at the “Sega Gamers Day”, by German gaming site Wii Insider.
As you can see the video shows the guys playing Samba, waving the Wiimote and Nunchuck around, in place of the good old Maracas of the Dreamcast days.
What you might hear is the sound of the Wiimote’s speaker, making the maraca sounds. To be honest I think they could be a bit distracting, they seem to overwhelm the music from the actual game. But let’s just hope it’s the audio quality of the video that makes them sound that way.
I never had the pleasure of playing the Dreamcast version, but according to NintendoWiiFanboy the video is showing off a new level, The Fairground.

Wow, the guys in the video make it seem like such a clinical affair.
How does this work, though? The Wii gyroscope can’t detect height, only movement and gravity.

Here’s the challenge: The Wii-mote itself is high tech, while the Nunchuk Wii peripheral is not. Sure, it does have a three-axis accelerometer, but still isn’t the same level of technology that’s in the Wii Remote. What’s more, the Wii-mote doesn’t always know where it is in space. It knows it’s been moved, but positioning it can be tricky. So getting the Wii-mote and the Nunchuk to input the same? Or what about making it so players can use two Wii-motes instead of a Wii Remote and a Nunchuk? Not easy! “It’s possible,” Pitchford explains. “You just need a lot of smart people who can do a lot of math.” Attitudes like that (and only attitudes like that) will keep the Wii out of the third party hobo gutter.

Suitcase - I have heard people say the Wiimote can’t detect height before. But Im not sure that’s true at all.
One of the minigames in WarioWare and also the trampolining in Mario and Sonic require you to move the Wiimote up and down (while holding it vertically) - so surely it is deteecting height in these instances.

just a guess but maybe it uses a combination of the wiimotes hight with the numchucks movement to detect hight for the numchuck… does that make any sense?
