Zombies teach English, not something I get to say very often so I’m going to savour every moment of it. Sega of Japan recently announced English of the Dead for the Nintendo DS, much like the game Typing of the Dead although this time words pop up in Japanese and you have to quickly spell it out in English, if you make it in time the zombie dies while screaming the word you just beat his arse with.

I say ‘you’ but really this game is for the Japanese to learn English with. So chances are no body reading this now will be getting the game considering the only Japanese people who will need the game are going to need it to help them learn English in the first place!

This to me is what the REAL Sega is all about, sure they are just reusing the House of the Dead 2 engine again but besides that this is a creative game, it’s quirky and bizarre but it already sounds fun. This is what Sega games are about. First you say “what the fuck?” and then you say “this sounds awesome!” That is what I would call ‘the classic Sega reaction’. Think of games like REZ, Samba de Amigo, Segagaga, Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket, Toy Commander, Seaman and Shenmue the list goes on and on.

These games are creative, they have passion behind them and you know the developers had fun making them. Sure this might just be a cheap cash in game… But it has the spark that reminds me of what Sega of Japan are all about. Creative, fun, wacky feel good games… Oh and blue sky!

I’d like to suggest another HotD spin off, Sketch of the Dead for Wii, using the Wiimote you have to draw along the outline of shapes that appear above the zombies heads… This I’ll let Sega have for free so long as they use all of the House of the Dead game engines from 1 to 4 on one disk!

So far no word on this game coming to the West, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to bring it over but I don’t know if Sega West will see this game as being worth it.

…Only Sega. Ya gotta love it. Too bad there won’t be one to teach us Japanese.
