ATEI 2008 Earl’s Court

A couple of days ago, I informed you all, that I (which would ultimately mean Sega Nerds) would be attending the ATEI 2008 show.

The whole show is dedicated to the different sides of gaming, which includes Slot machines, Pinball machines, Quiz machines and even money counting equipment (for casinos, I would presume).  But most importantly, for us, the show also focuses upon Arcade machines.

First things first, before I get onto reviewing the line up of games that Sega had on show, I should point out that this years ATEI felt very different to that of last years.  Well different for Sega, at least.

If you can all remember, Sega had a fantastic lineup of new arcade games, with new sequels to old classics, such as; House of the Dead 4, OutRun 2SP, Ghost Squad Evolution, Virtua Tennis 3 and After Burner Climax, while also showing off new games, including; Card games - Love and Berry, DinoKing, plus Let’s Go Jungle!and, the unbelievably brilliant Too Spicy.  Plus plenty of others on show.

This year, however, Sega did not have quite the same range of new arcade games to show off.  In fact, when you look at the show as far as actual games go, they had very little new to show.  But they did show off several of last years lineup, including OutRun 2, Ghost squad, Love and Berry, DinoKing, Virtua Tennis 3 and Let’s Go Jungle!

They also had other ‘old’ arcade games on show, including Virtua Fighter 5- which may not be that old, but is hardly brand new, or that exciting - especially with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions available, for very reasonable prices.  Most shockingly, but quite a nice site, was the original stand-up Crazy Taxi machine on display, in a small cranny of the vast Sega space.

But please do not be disheartened.  While Sega had but a few arcade games, they did have a good number of arcade machines (see how I have worded it, eh?).  The thing is, it seemed as though most of Sega’s new arcade products were not real gaming machines, in fact a few of them weren’t even interactive… But boy were they fun!

Stay tuned for the reviews of the games and other Sega arcade systems, coming very soon.

There has been just one response to this article.

Interested in your observation, our e-new report is just being compiled about ATEI’08. I just feel that you may have missed how the Sega booth was laid out and that the older cabs were in the second-hand area.

Also did you get to see the images of the new Sega theme park division (on the wall next to the OR2SD) or if you saw how popular RaceTV and Primeval was?

Anyway if you want more information please come over to The Stinger Report
