Mario & Sonic reclaims software lead in UK

It seems the unstoppable force that is Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is back once again and charging forward full force as it reclaimed the top spot in Chart-Track’s All Formats Top 40 chart in the United Kingdom. This marks the game’s second showing in the lead position when it debuted in the lead last month.

Additionally, Sega’s Ghost Squad debuted in the 20th spot, which isn’t too shabby, but perhaps more surprising is The Golden Compass, which currently holds the 18th spot.

With the surprising amount of success Mario & Sonic has reached so early in its life, one has to wonder if this could be just the start of many more cross-overs between Sega and Nintendo. But if you think this version has been popular, just wait until the DS version releases next month.

And everyone thought SEGA was crazy when they predicted 4 million sales! Looks who’s laughing now! At this rate, it looks like its posed to meet AND go beyond that target, anyone want to predict life time sales of this game?

lol, we’ll see. We don’t have any actual solid software numbers yet, you know.

Oops, sent it too early.

I imagine it’s already a million seller, and Europe has pushed Sonic over the million mark in the past…but I don’t believe the game has sold well enough in the other territories for this kind of talk yet. Sonic games do tend to have incredibly long shelf life, as do Mario games and these Wii Sports-esque games, so it’s still possible in my opinion, but a bit of a stretch.

Unless we’re talking Wii AND DS versions.

XD No nuckles, I’m dead serious about it selling four million and beyond on the Nintendo Wii

Mario and Sonic sold 613,000 in the United States over the December period, and that’s just the Demember period, considering the game came out in America, I think it’s reasoniable for one to say it sold around 150,000 in November, check NPD’s data for last month, Mario and Sonic come on at 10th place

Mario and Sonic in Japan has gone on to sell 468,000, thats sourced from Media Create. The Nintendo DS version apparently sold 40,000 units in one day, pointed out by one of our members Storm. The Wii version is selling well there, been in the top ten since it’s release I believe and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Europe I don’t have any numbers for, but Mario and Sonic is the Wii’s fastest selling title in the United Kingdom in any given week, hell it set the record, and then broke it the following week. If we do go with around a million units sold in Europe, we get…

1,000,000 (Estimated sales in Europe) + 613,000 (December sales in America) + 150,000 (Estimated November sales in America) + 468,000 (Sales in Japan) = 2,231,000 units

Half it’s target meet in just two months, So I do think that shows that the game will meet 4 million, especially with its presence in the UK charts and Japanese charts.

Combining the sales of the Wii and DS version should be fun too! = ]
