Finally it is here! Apologies we had planned to hold it sooner, but… well I won’t fob you off with any excuses, it was held off, it’s here now. That is what matters!
Previously we had teased you with the outline of prizes we had on offer, and now I give you the rules, regulations and (most importantly) the questions, with which you will need to win.
Rules: We have 4 seperate bundles of prizes to give away. Each bundle has a question to go with it. All you need do is choose which of the prizes bundles you would like to try and win, and answer the corresponding question, and then send your answer(s) to us (contact info coming up).
You can enter to win as many of the bundles you want to, however, we will pick the winners for each bundle in order (starting with 4, ending with 1), and should your name be chosen for Bundle 4, you will not be eligeble for any of the other bundles.
So if you really want to win Bundle 1, it could be wise not to enter for all 4 bundles, in case you ‘accidentally’ win a different bundle. But, then again, if you just want to win some Sega gaming goodies, then go ahead and enter for all the bundles!
The full list of prizes and questions coming up after the jump.
Bundle 4:Â Handheld Bundle
What we have here is a selection of Nintendo DS and Sony PSP titles.
DS: Super Monkey Ball DS, Sonic Rush and Touch Darts (with limited edition stylus)
PSP: Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars, Sega Megadrive Collection and CRUSH
Bundle 3: PC Bundle
House of the Dead III, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Sonic Adventure DX and Total War: Eras (Collectors edition boxset with; Shogun: Total War & Mongol Invasion Expansion Pack, Medieval: Total War & Viking Invasion Expansion Pack, Rome: Total War & Barbarian Invasion and Alexander Expansion Packs, plus more)
Bundle 2: Xbox 360 Bundle
Five Xbox 360 games; Chrome Hounds, Full Auto, Condemned, Virtua Tennis 3 and Virtua Fighter 5
Bundle 1: Saturn Bundle
Three fantastic Saturn classics. Enemy Zero, Christmas NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon Saga. Plus a NiGHTS Journey of Dreams poster, signed by Iizuka-san, the game’s creator (not shown in picture). And a Xbox 360 controller.
You may be wondering what the Xbox 360 controller is for? Well, I have to warn you that the three Saturn titles are from Japan, so you will need either a Japanese Saturn, a Convertor cartridge or a Saturn emulator.Â
We suggest using a Saturn emulator, in particular SSF. This allows you to play all region Saturn games on your PC, and the Xbox 360 controller works with SSF allowing you to play these Saturn games with ease. (See we do care).
Questions
Bundle 4 -Â Handheld Question:Â What is the name of the lead female character in Sonic Rush?
Bundle 3 - PC Question: Which division of Sega develops the Total War series?
Bundle 2 - Xbox 360Â Question: What major feature do the Xbox 360 versions of Virtua Fighter 5 and Virtua Tennis 3 have, that the PS3 versions do not?
Bundle 1 - Saturn Question: How many Panzer Dragoon games were released on the Sega Saturn?
So there we are, the full list of questions and prizes on offer for you. I, perhaps, should add that there are no trick questions here and anyone interested in gaming should be able to answer them with ease. However, if you cannot, there is always Wikipedia and hundreds of search engines to help aide you. (Really it cannot be more easy!)
How to Enter
To enter the contest all you need do is sign up to be a member here at Sega Nerds (don’t worry it is free) and then PM me (G) in the forums, with your answers.
Or you can also email me - graham@seganerds.com - giving the email header as “New Years Nerdaway” and then the answers to the questions of the prizes you want to win. :)
Simple eh? Any questions, feel free to either PM me or just leave a comment at the end of this post.
 Good luck everyone!
[Update:] Whoops! I forgot to add. The closing date for the contest will be on the 31st January 2008. So that is a little over 2 weeks away.Â
Any entries after this date, will not be counted. We shall then randomly draw the names for each winner and post them on the site the following week.
Thanks, in advance, to everyone who enters.

Wow! Great contest, G! Hopefully I’ll be one of the first to answer, and that’ll make my entry worth much more ^_^

That X-Box controller is highly out of place in the saturn bundle?

Is that the real DJGeki, tears her shirt off in happinesss…..

Cube-b3. Yes it is a little out of place - but if you wanted to use the SSF emulator, the Xbox controller is pretty much a perfect fit - you don’t need any attachments and the analogue is great for NiGHTS ;)
And Crazy Girl - if you mean DJGeki from Cryptic Allusion… then yes, I believe it is :)

Great; spam bots, non-SEGA fan people, and no chance of winning now. Thanks djgeki!!!
Also G, are any of those games besides the Saturn and PC games region free? I assume they’re all PAL.

Kogen shhh! We can take care of Spam bots. It’ll be a good chance for new people to see the site.
I say Thanks DJ Geki.
And Kogen. All PSP and DS games are region free.
And 3 of the Xbox 360 games are meant to be region free (yes apparently 360 games are region-free now). However don’t worry. For those that are not regon free we will send out copies that are for your region.
You will have working games :)

Oh, he should advertise it if he wants, but not to just random bloggers. They likely don’t give a fuck about SEGA. Do it on some SEGA/Sonic fan sites if you must.
Also remove your email; force people to join the forum instead. That requires going through registration and it’ll weed out more people who wouldn’t stay at the site.

If a USA person wins the pal games and doesn’t work on there console, i can buy USA games. So lets not worry (yet)

Granted, there will be people who view the site who might not care about Sega right NOW, but they likely will in time. More pageviews means more readership. Why else do websites have contests?

I don’t think you’ll convert many people to SEGA fans with a link to this place. If I saw it, and didn’t care, I’d still go for it since it’s free stuff I could sell. People will take advantage of it instead of someone who likes SEGA getting the games, possibly.
That’s why it’d be best if you posted any links, you posted them somewhere you’d find SEGA fans mostly.

I won’t argue your point, as it is valid. But I’d venture to guess that SegaNerds are going for readership numbers and page hits here. As much as we’d all love to believe that the sole reason they’re holding this contest is because they love their readers, we’d be naive to think that. I personally wish for the success of this site because they’ve been great to Cryptic Allusion thus far, and so I put the link on Digg hoping more people would find the site to their liking, and possibly keep reading the daily articles. I’ve read enough interesting info here that my main game news site (kotaku) just doesn’t post, or didn’t know/care about to warrant a daily check. There are bound to be more readers out there looking for the same thing.
To sum up: Thanks for the contest, and sorry for posting a Digg link if it was unwarranted!

Well it sure would be nice to get some new readers and forum members thats for sure, but the idea of the contest was more about wanting to do something BIG for the new year and the end of our first year!

Cool contest, thanks guys!

It’s kind of as Ryan says. We would like to do both with this contest.
Mainly it is actually to say a big “Thank You” to all our current members and regular readers.
But at the same time garner some interest from people who may not visit the site much (or at all).
The way I see it, it will mainly be the regulars and members who will enter the contest anyway.

“Stop the war before it begins”… this was the catch-up phrase of a Megadrive desert-strike series game.
SEGA may not be as ’successful’ as in the past but why are people complaining about the contest and the prizes?!? The blog is about SEGA after all.
Thank you for the contest guys!

Wow!, nice contest & fantastic prizes!,
many SEGA fans might register in your lovely forums
during upcoming weeks, now I feel even more happy for
being an active visitor who is also a registered member at this place.
BTW I really wish to win Bundle 1, so I might enter ONLY for that prize!

How many of these games are brand new?
Crazy Girl
Posted January 16th, 2008 at 1:47 pm.
Crazy Girl, a lot of the games are brand new and some Graham bought while he was in Japan during TGS. The others are review copies that Sega sent us, and I suspect even a few from Graham’s personal collection.
Chris
Posted January 16th, 2008 at 2:38 pm.
No Chris NONE are from my personal collection. I’m not that generous!
All the PC games are brand new.
The Japanese games Im not sure - I got them in Japan, as Chris said - and they still have plastic on them (but could be the stores plastic).
Most of the DS PSP and Xbox 360 games are new. But a few of them I had to get preowned.
They should all be in working order though, otherwise the manager at GAME will be getting an ear full!

I believe all three of the current generation of home consoles have basically what amounts to “voluntary region encoding.” If the developer decides to put it into place, it’s enforced by the console, but it’s not required on any level.
I’ve noticed that a lot of Japanese developers (not necessarily publishers) have a tendency to continue the practice. Not sure if that trend has been maintained lately, though…
