Famed Deus Ex creator Warren Spector recently revealed on his blog that he’s always wanted to transform The Golden Compass into a video game, leaving us only to imagine how cool the game actually could have been.

“I’ve been waiting for Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series to hit the big screen for years. I really wanted to make the game, long before the film came out, but that’s another story …,” he wrote.

Now we’re left with a game that rivals some of Sega’s worst it’s ever released, and yes, we’re including Alien Syndrome in that list, too. However, I always like to play devil’s advocate, and we don’t know if Sega even knew of Spector’s interest in the first place.

On the flip side, considering some of the really small development companies Sega’s been putting behind some of its games, I’d be willing to bet Sega wanted to find a cheaper company to develop the license.
