Mario and Sonic takes the gold medal

Well Sega seemed pretty confident that Mario and Sonic would do well in the sales, and it seems they were right.Â
After some wobbly first few steps from the starting blocks, Sega have managed to sprint the final few feet, and claim the top spot, (how you liking this racing analogy?), in last weeks UK games charts.
Now this is not just the Wii sales figures, these are the multiplatform sales figures. Meaning that Mario and Sonic managed to beat down the likes of Call of Duty 4 and Assassins Creed.Â
Granted, most of the games have been in the charts for a few weeks now, but Mario and Sonic managed to jump some 6 places to reach the no. 1 position, after being on UK shelves for (about) 2 weeks only. Plus Mario and Sonic is on the Wii only, whereas most of the other games are multiplatform. So it is pretty impressive.
In other great news, The Golden Compass, appears to have made some impact, reaching no. 16 on it’s entry week. Not too bad, considering the movie is taking a dive at the box office (or so I’m led to believe).
So looking good for Sega in the current UK charts, let’s hope sales continue to stay high throughout December, for when NiGHTS comes to Europe, in January.Â
And let’s not forget, that Mario and Sonic DS is due out soon, so if Wii sales are anything to go by, the DS sales should be pretty high too!
On a personal note: I am kind of sad to see that Mario Galaxy sales have dropped, somewhat, the game deserves to be higher than many others shown, in my opinion.

It just goes to show that everyone was wrong. Third party games CAN sell well on Wii…
As long as they have Mario in them. ;)
