Sonic Riders 2 - Gameplay trailer

A brand-new trailer for Sonic Riders 2 is now online. The first trailer, which we showed some time ago, featured a small amount of gameplay plus some pretty cool looking FMV footage.
This new trailer is about 80% gameplay, showing off just what we should expect from the game, including:
- The gravity control
- 60 vehicles
- New tricks to perform
- New tracks
- Multiple routes
- Multiplayer modes (4-player definitely supported)
The game looks like it is shaping up pretty well. I only played a demo of the original and thought it was pretty good, though my biggest complaint was that I thought it should have been faster. From the new trailer, I would have to say the same thing about this game.
I know the game isn’t just about speed and I know the original had quite a steep learning curve (well so I have been told), so it does require skill. But when you think of Sonic and racing, speed is kind of an essential thing, in my opinion.
According to the trailer, the game is set for release on the Wii and PS2 on Jan. 8, 2008.

Damn … I thought this game would have been bad … but it looks nicer than expected … Jan 8th seems pretty soon …
The first one was alright but the circuits seem way better on this one.
Please no singing on the music … SATSR was enough …

Oh I dunno about no singing.
SatSR was a tad annoying - especially the menus.
But, think about Sonic Adventure (opening theme) Sonic R had some cracking tunes too - most of which had singing.
Its not all bad. But best not to have too much…

I actually got a lot out of the first one and really enjoyed it, though it had a HUGE learning curve. The type that if I go back and try to play it I’m sure I’ll suck balls.
Needless to say I’ll get this one.

I’ll probably get this when it’s at a lower price and when I get a Wii; the thing I hated the most about the first one was the Mario Party style controls that would break a joystick eventually.

The one thing that will benefit me from this release date is that it doesn’t have to interfere with my intentions of playing Smash Bros Brawl(And we know Sonic’s in both).

I actually thought the first game was TOO fast… So much so that in the later races, it felt like after one tiny slip up, it would be impossible to catch up to your opponents. And yeah, the learning curve pretty much breaks it as a party game. It’s nearly impossible for newbies to just pick up and play. I played with a friend a few times and was just totally lost the entire time. I didn’t actually figure out what the hell I was supposed to be doing until I sat down and played some single player.

Obsessively pieced apart:
-Limited boosting is obviously back, but it’s not Air anymore, it’s called GP (probably Gravity Power), and it’s refilled by using the Gravity Dive
-Multiplayer is confirmed. Nobody is surprised. All four players are Blaze, XD
-The Gears kick up dust, and it’s not turbulence. Looks like turbulence isn’t in anymore.
-It looks like they deliberately fell behind in some parts to film the trailer. XD
-New mechanic: Slipping down like in act 2 of Sonic Rush Adventure’s snow level.
-Turning looks much more responsive.

Also, Silver’s in there at 0:37 left (I thought it was Wave or Rouge at first) and NiGHTS shows up on the map in the same clip.

I see the standards of Sonic music hasn’t changed since my last run in. I think that song would be pretty cool without lyrics though.

I love the music in this next game. It seems their improving it some.
Though I hope they stick to the origonal’s techno style as it just down right worked.
I really love futuristic racers and this looks like a cross between Mag Force and F-zero with that gravity/magnet like mechanic. Just hope Im not the only one figuring out how to use it. It kinda drains any bit of multiplayer one can have. Though It has been said it’ll go online, I just hope its for actual RACING and not score boards of pointlessness. >.<
I really loved the first game. It took me a long time before I played it but after playing the PC version wtih a slwow framerate I tracked down the GCN version.
Once you get into things and understand some mechanics that aren’t explained well, then it all works out rather well. I find it a load of fun.
Now Speed I think it has alot of, but playing as slow charecters has a bit more stradegy to it.
One thing I hated the most was the on screen que that explained how to do a hard turn and boost. It takes up the whole screen almost and isnt translucent. Very annoying, made the PC version better.
Though it was cool hitting those signs and whatching the sparks. I hope theres proper slow motion bits at cool points just for good measure.
It looks like they are fixing the small quircks too, Im definitly gonna grab it.

I think the music sounds a little too serious for a cartoonish(annoying anime style) game like this with Sonic looking like a fruit and a bunch of shitty birds racing him. I really hate this clay animation style they have.
Also I didn’t like the music in the last game much. I like techno music - but it was just bad. I’d prefer they actually did good music this time.

Also, I hope to see Metal Sonic, E-102 Gamma, Big and the Chaotix in the game. They didn’t get into Sonic Riders (1), so it’s likely they’ll appear in Sonic Riders (2): Zero Gravity. Also, I hope to see a new Sega Carnival, which was made Sonic Riders (1) worth looking at. More Sega characters like Amigo or Billy Hatcher seem likely.
Also, the game has disappeared from the list of Sega of Japan’s PS2 games, and Sonic Team’s list of games they devoloped. Looks like a PS2 exclusive…

Again, the music is goood, as the music in the first one was horrible. Plus, the trailer was good to look at. It is a pretty early release date for a Sonic game. Maybe it should release in February.
Anyway, may Sonic live on. I’m starting a website petion also soon to revive the Sonic franchise in the 2D and 3D dimension, plus some suggestions for Sonic RPG. Please join…

“Also the game has disappeared…” How does this make it a PS2 exclusive? If anything, assuming this is true(which I’m sure it isn’t), it’d be a Wii exclusive.
