Sonic RPG is not canceled

by George on November 16th, 2007

The team working on the untitled Sonic RPG was bought by EA last month, so many were questioning if it was canceled. Bioware has confirmed on their forums that it is still in the works, and not only that, but that there will be a sneak peak very soon.

So, our commitment to Sonic RPG on the DS hasn’t changed a bit - We have a great partner with SEGA and we’re looking forward to being able to show some…some sneak peaks on that game real soon.

I wish it was more than a sneak peak. I just pray it’s not a disaster. The last thing I want to play is a Sonic-themed Jade Empire.

16 opinions for Sonic RPG is not canceled

Personally I’m hoping it’s Castlevania-style, with Sonic maintaining his 2D glory while leveling up and killing stuff. But that’s obviously too good to be true, so I wonder what it really will be like.

Bryans idea is the best idea.

I think a lot of gamers would love that. BUUUUUUUUUUT it’s coming from Bioware so I seriously doubt it turns out that way.

Even like that I think it’d be stupid. Sonic just doesn’t fit in an RPG. It’ll probably be something crappy like Megaman Battle Network Force: Red Edition 12.

um.. I would LOVE to play a sonic-themed Jade Empire. Seriously.

Since when is Jade Empire a bad game? Seems you need to check out some of Bioware’s gems.

Jade Empire is a good game, but I don’t want to play a sonic-themed JE too.

And I don’t like a castlevania Sonic rpg.

In my opinion it would be great something like the adventure fields from Sonic Adventure + gameplay from Zelda Phantom hourglass.
I don’t see others ways to make a Sonic RPG…

“Sonic just doesn’t fit in an RPG.”

I remember people saying the same thing about Mario back in the day.

    Well they were wrong.

I remember people saying the same thing about Mario back in the day.

I barely heard anyone say that about Mario. But then again, I was more curious about Mario in an RPG.

I like CityHunters idea, having it a bit like Sonic Adventure/Zelda… but can the DS handle something like that?
    Especially with Sonic beng speedy?

The only way I can see Sonic being in a RPG would be if he slowed down… and that’s just not how I want to see Sonic.
That would be like Mario being able to curl up into a ball and spin into enemies…. wrong.

Nothing wrong with Jade Empire, its a great game. I want to play a SONIC RPG not a JADE EMPIRE SONIC EDITION. If I wanted to play Jade Empire like game, I’d play Jade Empire.

Some of you are also forgetting another Sega game that made everyone go “Huh?” when they said the next installment would be an RPG.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. And it not only turned out good, it became the best game in the series.

And oddly enough, I could see a similar battle system working for Sonic - i.e. Sonic constantly running while you change your position in real-time and select time-based attacks (targeting with the stylus). I could totally imagine the race with Metal Sonic from Sonic CD using a system like Saga’s.

This could be great for Boss fights :)

We have yet to know if Sonic rpg will be a traditional, strategic or action rpg (I’m sure for the last one since it’s developed by a western company).

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t want to see Sonic waiting to attack and adventuring slowly on the field. I want to see Sonic running across 2D levels, jumping on springs, and just dashing. Sonic RPG seems like a horrible impletion to make, and it makes Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity make waiting for even. I just want another 2D Sonic again.

A 2D Castlevania Sonic doesn’t seem good, a Tradiontal RPG would just ruin the Sonic franchise, and Strategy, that just would be horrible. A action RPG would be nice though, just make Sonic fast if they do that….

Sonic RPG could make work, having some platforming on the field, and some at leasted action styled combat like Mario and Luigi: Paranters in Time. Maybe a Sonic RPG could work, after all Mario works as a RPG. However, if Bioware screws this up and kills the Sonic franchises, I’m grabbing a pitchfork and starting a angry mob. I’m serious…

Why can’t Sonic Team or Treasure even, devolop this….
