Import Genesis VC titles will continue to be higher priced

In Sega’s latest press release announcing Alien Soldier (Where’s the damn “Look Back,” Hudson?) it began with an interesting sentence, which pretty much solidified the questions whether the higher-priced (900 points instead of the normal 800) games would continue.
Sega of America today announced that it will be releasing a number of import titles from the Sega Genesis library starting with Alien Soldier, which is currently available for download on the Wii Shop Channel. Prices for import Sega Genesis titles start at 900 Wii Points.
That’s really all you need to know right there. While we’ve long complained about the Virtual Console’s pricing structure, I can understand the reasoning behind import titles being higher priced since they need to be localized. I think it’s a great move by Sega and an even greater opportunity for gamers to be able to enjoy classic titles that never made it our way.

Hmmm I wonder…Does this mean that if Sega ever decide to release Saturn titles on VC (if that’s possible ?!?) or on XBLA (more likely!) - That we may get to see some translated games there?
Anyone say Shining Force 3 - Parts 1,2 and 3?!

Saturn titles will never come to the VC unless Nintendo somehow makes some sort of external hard drive that you can keep downloaded games on.
I think Saturn or Dreamcast games coming to the XBLA or PSN is much more likely. Keep in mind that Sega isn’t against the issue since it’s already put software from both systems on Gametap.

Saturn ports are extremely unlikely due to the unbelievably complex hardware native to the system. The more excellent the graphics/sound were in a Saturn game, the more it pushed the hardware, and the less easy it is to reproduce those specific effects/functions on other platforms.
And it’s coming, jerk!

I’d be happy to see Master System / Game Gear games on the VC and the more complicated, difficult stuff to emulate on XBLA. I don’t give a rip about the Playstation Network, since I don’t have a PS3.

PSN isn’t popular anyway, is it? I never hear of SEGA games or really much of anything going to it.
Also, unless they’re translating these games, this is bullshite over pricing of over priced goods.

Nintendo allowing for an external hard drives isnt totally out the question - those USB ports need to be used for something - other than keyboards.
And Hudson, Sega have already put Saturn games onto GameTap - plus it’s not that hard - as it is the parent company (Sega) who know how the system works, and own the technology, who would be putting the games on there.
Its hard for outsiders to emulate the system, but not for Sega themselves. Also SSF is a working Saturn emulator for the PC - which runs most games near perfect, so the coding has been cracked (finally!)
-Long and short is - that if Sega wanted to put Saturn games on a system (like the 360) Then they could do it.

Actually hold on…. How big are N64 games?
Surely the file sizes for N64 games and Saturn games are pretty similar? I know FMV sequences would take up more space, but an average Saturn title surely can’t be much more than a N64 one?
If that’s the case - then surely Sega could put Saturn games on the VC now - with no need for external drives, as there are N64 games on there now. and I know Zelda 64 was meant to be a pretty hefty sized game in its day- that’s on there.

N64 games are like 32 - 64 MBs. Saturn games are like 600+.

Graham, like you said, FMV takes up a HUGE amount of space, and I’m not even sure if most Saturn games could even fit on the Wii’s tiny 512MB flash memory.

Seriously? N64 games are THAT small???
I’m kind of speechless…
Well Chris, I’m not really arguing the point… For some (CRAZY) reason I thought N64 games would have taken up much more space than they do…
Anyway main point being - that Nintendo, could quite feasably release some form of external device. Or if not just have them on XBLA.
Just don’t ruin my dream of having a fully English version of Shining Force 3!!!

Sega could port Saturn titles to VC using alot of compression Id think.
Sega CD games could do it at the least, though theres only so many good ones.
Well, hmm, early Sega Saturn games most likely could handle extra compression.
You know, Nintendo could always derive some way to run them from an SD card.
Just make a channel that downloads the needed data to the SD card and uses it while running. Not to mention keep it there. Though theres the encryptin problems too.
Nintendo really needs to make an f’ing harddrive. gwah.
Oh ya, Alien soldier rocks! :3
Hard as heck, but great.
